Tim Berners-Lee is the man who invented the internet. Will there be another domain rush?

“We are not talking to Facebook and Google about whether or not to introduce a complete change where all their business models are completely upended overnight,” he declared. “We are not asking their permission.”

"You see, for years now Berners-Lee has expressed his distaste at how major corporations have taken what was supposed to be a free environment and placed restrictions on it. The way I understood is, it will not be a new internet. So there won't be a new ICANN, registrars, registries etc. It will will using the same internet. Berners-Lee is creating a new ecosystem within the current internet. Much like Android or iOS, but decentralized.
