Decided to write a short review on the Certified Offer Service for domain resellers offered by Network Solutions, now that I am a regular user.

Essentially, what Network Solutions Certified Offer Service offers is; a secure, safe and trusted method for end-users to aquire domain names from their respective owners, annonomously. The perspective buyer makes the offer through NetSol and has the offer amount temp. placed on their credit card, until the seller decides to proceed with the offer.

I recieved my first certified offer through NetSol in late Feb of this year and had never heard of the service before. At first I had suspicions and posted here to find out whether or not it was legitimate. I realized it was and continued with accepting the offer. I also have the choice to counter offer with a higher amount or reject the offer all together.

Now that I've had 6 certifed offers since my first, I can actually say this is the best service NetSol offers, since we all know they make domain regs quite pricey and transfering out domains a major head-ache, but with regards to this one service - they are awesome. The reps for each certfied offer I've had have worked hard to resolve issues with my outgoing registrars to make transfer happen (that I couldn't) as a result of no-transfer out periods - but they made the deal happen and painless everytime - and even though I'm in Canada, payment checks have been quickly recieved and they have kept me updated with email actually written by the reps - I'm quite pleased with this service and am now referring my domain buyers to them more often than I do escrow.com - I think end-users also find it easier and can just call NetSol and leave everything up to them - and the seller can also relax and let them handle the rest also.

I might add that I would suspect that anyone who does use this service will end up transfering out the domain from NetSol - they really do need to lower their registration prices...

As a buyer, the service isn't that great :imho: . NSI does nothing more then a simple email, which can be blocked by a spam folder. For the $19 that it costs to send an offer and the 5% fee tacked on to the offer price if the offer is accepted, makes me not like the service.

If all goes well, it's not all that bad... One offer I had agreed to with a seller, sent the offer paying the $19. 2 weeks later and no word so I recontacted the seller and he said he never got anything from nsi.... so on and so on.. It killed the deal, lost the $19 and the time involved.

I've found NetSol's certified offer service helpful for making offers to domain holders with private registration / no contact info listed. The owners' response rates seem to be higher when presenting the offer through this service than when e-mailing them on my own.

If you're selling a high-value domain and have agreed on a transaction amount with the buyer, DON'T use NetSol's certified offer service; use Sedo escrow:

<http://sedo.com/services/s_escrow.php?language=e>

There's no $19 offer charge, the escrow fee's only 3% (as opposed to NetSol's 5%), and there are no checks. Payment get credited to your PayPal account -- usually within a week of the exchange's start -- via PayPal instant transfer. Sedo's escrow service is the best thing Sedo offers, in my opinion; but be sure to take your domain off Sedo's marketplace BEFORE the buyer bids, else you'll get hit with Sedo's standard 10-25% listing fee.

Thanks for the review - just received an offer, and this was the first thing that came up searching Namepros. Very handy!

:)

They've asked for the domain to be unlocked before I receive a check, much less before the sale has gone through. Strange practice IMO, but this thread has led me to think it's ok.

It now costs $39. If the other party can't click on a link right on the web site's lander to place an inquiry for the domain, it means they are willing to waste $39 for anonymity. So they get their offer declined. :D
