Another question I have as a newbie domainer.

Doing some initial research I see people buying and selling domains both on ebay and forums like this one.

What is your opinion of using ebay for selling domains?

I am interested in beginning with buying and selling lower cost domains to get my feet wet and learn what is selling and how long it takes to sell them.

I'm not looking for big bucks here. I'm looking to turn small profits to learn about niches for domain names.

Any other suggestions of how to get my feet wet without losing a lot of money?

I'm still reading a lot here so any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

There is a running argument already about Ebay elsewhere on this forum that you can read while waiting for an answer but Ebay is pretty much the bargain bin in my opinion, you will have to wade through an insane amount of crap or mediocre offers but you may just find a shiny bauble in the there somewhere.

The best advice I can give you is to find domains where people are searching to buy something and yet it is not yet registered, around 1000 exact searches is a good ballpark to start with.

I have a small guide to finding these little gems in my signature but don't expect to find the next million dollar name with it, it is more for finding smaller names with smaller searches and competition that people are looking for an answer but no one is providing it.

For instance, everyone will target "remote control" but no one targets "remote control for tv" even though it is obvious...that is the stuff my thing is good for finding, you can go to the Noomle thread and learn how to put up a minisite for free there...if people like the potential of it you may just get an offer :)

Make sure at the beginning you try to make your domains as commercial as possible and don't try to get clever with domain hacks or fancy spelling, make sure they are grammatically correct and match what people are searching for as much as possible as this will either make or break a domain. For instance, CarRadioControlled.com may be a reasonably good name, RadioControlledCar.com is far, far superior and will possibly get into the thousands rather than mere low double digits.

Thank you Sparhawke

Wonderful information thank you. I will go and read the thread on ebay. I am sorry I missed that one so far.

I appreciate your opinion on ebay also as after doing a lot of research there I did not see very much and they have lots of fees.

I also really am glad you added the rest of the information here. I have been building mini sites for some time now, all keyword domains. And my reading so far here is showing most people seem to be going after the short domain names.

My mini sites are long tail keyword phrases with low to medium searches. Your guide of 1000 searches per month is very helpful also.

I will also take a look at your guide as I really want to learn more about this and be able to do well.

I'm not from the Millionaire in a minute school myself.

Personally I'm from the slow and steady long term business income streams that are a win win for everyone.

Being a newbie at this I'm trying to learn two things first. How to sell some of my keyword mini sites that are built, or sell the domains to them in particularly popular niches.

Also how to buy domains and resell to those looking to build them up.

I am really interested in your approach and thank you very much for taking the time to help me!! and hopefully a lot of others as well

I have an automated search set up on Ebay that mails me once a day with new listings that meet my search criteria. (dot us with opening bid <$25) but have yet to buy one.

For a developer/user like me it's not worth the effort to look through the listings.

Thank you mhdoc,

I had no idea you could do that on ebay. I will try that to see if it nets me any good prospects.

I like the time savings with this as I don't care to spend hours searching there either. I'd rather doing money making activities.

Great help thanks!
