Need help aquiring typo domains!!

Hi

I have only recently got into the domain investment scene (about 3 months ago) but have been head down since then researching. I have aquired about 50 names which receive no traffic that I simply wish to hold on to and resell. However I am very interested in aquiring some typo domains to build parking income (have just joined 1plus.net). I have bought the stypo program to aid in finding typo domains but have had no success after searching literally thousands of domains (have searched the entire top 500 alexa rankings, many of the alexa country rankings and many from ranking.com). I can find many that are available but 0 available that have overture searches. Every single one I have seen (would be over 10,000 by now) that has overture searches is registered.

I am wondering if it is possible to find any good typo domains in today's world or if they have all been registered. Is it worth registering any without overture data or are they a waste of time? I realise that the overture data is only if someone types in domainname.com into a yahoo network search rather than domainname which is much more likely. Therefore many people could simply type domainname.com into their browser without searching for it but this is a risky step to register any of these without overture searches I believe.

Any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Should I just stick to long term capital growth domains instead of worrying about typos?

Best regards
David

Dear David,

I reg a lot of domain names.
With the right research (that includes checking if a domain has a trademark)
and PPC program. (more info at www.ThePPCParkingGuide.com ;) )
You can make a nice income from typo domains.

But, I think you should always also buy some premium domain names.

TIP: (Ps.) I dont use any program for my typo's
just use notepad and type the domain 50 times
and see what typo's you made the most

Goodluck.

kind regards,

Faisj

You're going to have to buy them if you want them. Checking all typos of the Alexa Top 500 is a waste of time.

addvertiser.com is for sale at Sedo

Nice Typo.

There are thousands... just find one you like and make a go of it. With proper SEO and Marketing, ANY domain can be a PPC REV generator. :)

First off, read my typo advice thread. Secondly, you're checking Alexa ranked names in the top 500. These are sites established for 2+ years at least. Look for rising sites to get typos of. Otherwise all you'll ever be doing is coming up empty.

1% ctr for a typo is waaay low. I get about 25-33% ctr (assuming you're talking about a typo of a website and not a word). You're losing crazy money if you're not getting that optimized!

Irishmat, if its the sports typo, i can help you, as i snipped up the www typo of it, i only get 2-3 visitors daily, but i had a 3.2$ worth click yesterday on it, i have played with the keywords a lot on that one to get the proper ads shown.......

I dont do typo registering myself, but i've read a similar thread before that had a great idea for finding them. Open up a spreadsheet such as excel and type the word over and over in the same column for as long as you can, without looking up. Then use the sort feature and see which one you did most frequently.

I dont see much practical use for Overture as far as typos go. Think about it, the typos are of domains themselves (normally.) Therefore, people are more likely to make the typo whilst actually entering the domain in the address bar than in the search bar.

As I said, I dont do this myself, so it's not exactly expert advice here. But I like to think i've got enough common sense to apply some logic to the situation. ;)

It works in the same sense that normal non-typo domains work with Overture. People are not normally typing web addresses into search engines, but a small percentage of people do that, and so when a domain with Ovt w/ Ext is found, it generally indicates many more type-ins into the URL bar directly. Ditto with typo domains. It's generally pretty hard to find typo domains with OVt w/ ext though.

Also, you can use Ovt to see how often a particular word in the typo domain is typed into Overture as well. For instance, when the KatherineMcPhee.com domain sold, many people found the name to be a typo of the actual American Idol contestant. However, the typo name had 1/3 the actual name in OVT, which is quite a lot for a typo. Additionally, the typo domain had MORE Ovt w/ext than the regular!
