I have as of yet never auctioned domain names. I am looking to do so from my large portfolio of aged domains. Names are registered with GoDaddy but thought of auctioning on Sedo…what is the process I would need to follow in order to do this for anyone who has done so? Or if you recommend d auctioning on a different platform where you have had success…any input would be appreciated!!!!

I'm not sure what niche your domains are in, but some marketplaces do slightly better than others for specific niches. I analyzed 11 different marketplaces a little bit ago and you might find the result helpful in deciding which one to lean on here: https://www.namepros.com/threads/11...ir-advantages-disadvantages-and-more.1354416/

At the end of the day though, it really boils down to the domain name itself, and not so much the marketplace. A good quality domain attracts buyers regardless where it's listed.
  • You can have 10 million views on a poor domain with no buyers or inquiries.
  • You can have 10k views on an average domain and get 25 inquiries/tire kickers of low-ball offers but no buyer.
  • You can have 500 views on an above average domain with some liquidity and get 39 inquires mixed with low-ball, modest and considerate offers with 1 or 2 you might sell to at a discount for a quick flip.
  • You can have 10 views on a quality premium domain with 100 low-balls, 50 modest offers, 5 serious offers (Because they found you via whois, direct type-in, or somewhere else, other than the marketplace listing itself) and the ability to negotiate and have them all bid against each other in an auction you start and link them all to.

I have one other question and do t mean to sound like an idiot…doing any kind of auction thing is new to me…but if I have names registered with GoDaddy what is the process of putting those elsewhere if I did auction…there are over 500 listed in Afternic (it is my understanding that those get exposure already on other sites?) but the remaining 500 or so I have have not been officially priced and are registered under GoDaddy…in other words if I was going to try and put the name on another marketplace but registered with HoDaddy I just don’t understand the process…hope this makes sense what trying to ask…Yoor article that you directed me too which you wrote up was some VERY helpful info…thank you again!!!!

No worries.. ;)

Regardless where your domain name is registered, it can generally be listed on a 3rd party marketplace for resale.

Each marketplace is a little different, so, you'll need to read up on their policies and procedures.

For instance:
  1. Some Registrars are able to work with a 3rd party marketplace via API's and facilitate a transfer between registers for you, upon a sale.
  2. Others don't use any form of api to automated the transfer process, leaving everything up to the buyer and seller to do (like when you use NamePros marketplace)
For Example:
  1. Marketplaces like Afternic and Sedo integrate with your existing registrar to manage the listing and facilitate the sale, making the process smoother. These platforms allow you to list your domain from your existing registrar, expanding its exposure to potential buyers without requiring you to move your domain to their platform first.
  2. Marketplaces like NamePros, with no integration, require the buyer and seller to agree on a 3rd party payment method (E.g. Escrow.com, Paypal, etc..) and once payment has been confirmed by the seller, they either push the domain between registrar accounts (If the buyer also has an account at the same registrar as the sellers domain) or the seller provides an authentication code, allowing the buyer to transfer the domain out from the existing registrar and into a different registrar account.
Note: If a domain is still in it's 60-day lock period, it can not be transferred to another registrar until the 60-days is over. However, a domain can generally be pushed between accounts at the same registrar during the 60-day lock period.

Added Note: You may also want to explore NamePros landing pages with some of your domains: https://www.namepros.com/threads/na...escrow-com-integration-and-much-more.1324080/

In addition to the guide above, you might find the following interesting, where I generated a $100 via a banner ad on a NamePros landing page while it sat waiting for a buyer (Effectively covering it's renewals for a few years): https://www.namepros.com/threads/do...ated-100-usd.1357435/?utm_source=namepros.com

What ever marketplace you decide to go with, i wish you luck. :)

Have you tried using NamePros auctions yet to see how things go?

Domain Auctions Guide
Marketplace Guide
I haven’t but have thought trying with some names possibly…I know they will go for far lower than their true value but for my lower valued domains I may try and give it a try…they are registered with GoDaddy and selling on here as I understand will be through a third party such as Escrow for finalizing a sale? Also any negotiations would be done on here as well

it all depends on names.

u can try to move a few to dyna and auction there

I had best result there

if u post names here people can tell u ifworth it

u can easily find steps to auction on dyna or elsewhere on teir sites

no need to trouble others as you seem on pic to be over 12 years of age and thus need not be held by the hand
