I have a fairly large domain portfolio that I inherited from my father (names acquired mostly in early 90's) and need to raise some cash. I also dedicate my time to come up with creative avenues for advertising the names I do have (majority are listed on Afternic). I realize by an article I read that there will no longer be auctions in GoDaddy. I am wondering what is the best auction platform in your opinion. I have my names housed at GoDaddy so need to start with a name to put on an auction somewhere to get my feet wet and want to make sure I am doing everything correctly. Can a name be on auction in another venue while still being listed on Afternic? Any advice to this thread would be greatly appreciated...a newbie making her way!! Oh and btw I have not discounted putting any of my names here on NamePros as understand they can be listed here as well? Thanks for any advice in advance!!!

Second person in a month who inherited a portfolio from his father, but now it's ''early nineties''. I wonder when we start getting people claiming that they inherited it from a grandfather, who started to gather a portfolio during the Second World War...

Hi DJava,
if you ineredited from your father this means he is dead... so condolences.
If those names were acquired mostly in early 90's, maybe they are good names, or premium domains.
If you are new in domaining and you want to make sure you're doing everything correctly, you need to study, read, and experiment a lot.
I or someone else here could say you 'go to Atom auction' or 'go to Sedo auction', etc., but I always repeat what works for one maybe doesn't work for another. Also, don't think that your DNs on auction will sell faster than using 'Make an offer' or 'Buy it now'. It depends on the quality and value of your names.
About selling on NamePros you can read this guide for new members

Well, for a new comer, having a platform such as NamePros for community review and involvement would be good. Of course, Sedo or Flippa auctions are also options. Absolutely, a domain name can be put on multiple platforms; after all, Afternic sells to, amongst others, these sources. You just have to be careful not to overlap in terms of auction timing. This will help with amplifying visibility and possible sale numbers.
Good luck

Hi @DomainJava
Wishing you the best of luck with your domain sales! You mentioned Afternic, and while we don't offer auctions there, we want to ensure you're set up for success with some basics:
  • Buy It Now Price: Set a Buy It Now price on your domain listings through Afternic. This allows potential buyers to purchase your domain instantly across Afternic's network of partner registrars (like GoDaddy), contributing to an increase in your portfolio's conversion rates.
  • Set a Lander: A for sale lander acts like a "for sale" sign for your domain. It lets visitors know your domain is available. Afternic and others offer domain landers to help: Sales Landers.
  • Fast Transfer: Domains with a Buy Now price can join our Fast Transfer network, gaining increased exposure (85 million searches for Fast Transfer domains versus 30 million for the standard network, based on GoDaddy Premium vs Standard Network transactions from January 2023 through November 2023).
If you have any further questions, Afternic's support team is ready to assist at afternic.com/contact.
