Nearly two thirds of website traffic 'generated by bots'
Non-human entities, or 'bots', now account for 61.5 per cent of all website visitors – a 21 per cent growth in bot traffic since 2012 – according to new research.
The bulk of that growth is attributed to increased visits by "good bots", which are used by certified agents of legitimate software, such as search engines, to crawl websites and to index their content. However, 31 per cent of bots are malicious, posting phishing links or siphoning data from networks, according to the study by Incapsula.
