So today i noticed one of my sites at 50% less traffic than usual (5 years old site)

when i checked, on half the browsers and proxies i got a fake expired domain page.

the dns setup at namesile is ns1.hostmastered.net and ns2.hostmastered.net

however on the dns propagation i found some centers that pointed to different ip's than ns1.hostmastered.net and ns2.hostmastered.net

the guy at namesilo admitted they cah hijack traffic but "WHY WE SHOULD REDIRECT TO COMPETITOR"

so who stealed my traffic ? Namesilo as my registar or my web host ?

Impossible to say anything without the domain name, as well as any recent history you are aware of (registrar transfer, hosting changes, expiration or renewal etc)

Can you share the name? Maybe in PM.
I can check the dns response fully.

If nameservers stayed the same, Namesilo didn't do anything.
The company behind ns1.hostmastered.net is where I would check first :)
Hope it gets resolved quickly for you

the question is who put the wrong value in

Namesilo or my host? Namesilo is the registar where is etup my dns to use my hosting provider ns1.hostmastered.net

So for the domain set NS': ns1.hostmastered.net, ns2.hostmastered.net
But in a zone file on these DNS indicated other NS: ns5.thewebhostserver.com, ns6.thewebhostserver.com, ns7.thewebhostserver.com, ns8.thewebhostserver.com

It's not a problem at all, but better don't confuse other DNS' and ask the owner of DNS ns1.hostmastered.net, ns2.hostmastered.net update NS in the zone file idahoindex.com to ns1.hostmastered.net, ns2.hostmastered.net

No visible issues with namesilo. You might want to ask your host what happens at their dns servers. If I query dns directly - your website shows IP as 162.221.188.251 ; If I query google dns server 8.8.8.8 - it responds with 209.99.40.222 as your IP (so your host responded with different IP to google dns servers at the time I queried). Not necessary bad thing, maybe your host upgraded something

Namesilo cannot update A or MX record if they don't own the NS' ns1.hostmastered.net, ns2.hostmastered.net
They can update these records (A, MX) if you park the domain on their NS. But even in this case I doubt they do the things like these.

I'm not sure it's hijacking. Open a ticket and ask what happened. There seems to have been an ip change.

Maybe they got reassigned new ips. Maybe they were put on a new node. Maybe they moved some accounts to other nodes to spread the load.

Your host is a reseller of another company so they may not even be aware. Check their notification page to make sure it isn't something they announced in advance. Maybe check your spam box as well for possible notifications.

What I wouldn't do is going for a charge back where there could very well be a logical explanation. Sure, they seem to have messed up but you'll most likely lose the charge back. When you do chargeback for multiple payment I have no doubt they will submit you to fraudrecord.

Chargebacks don't just make a business reverse the payment, they will be charged a 'fine' on top of that plus it will hurt their reputation with their payment processor. Only use this option if there is no other possible resolution.

That being said, there is also the option your account was hacked/compromised. Like I said, talk to your host.

Looks like your site is resolving fine now.

This is another thread in which it is unfortunate that the title can't be changed as my reading of what has been said is that NameSilo had no role in any problems.

I agree with @NameDeck that the OP should not rush into chargebacks on hosting company as there are hacking etc. possible explanations. Always best to talk first before jumping to conclusions.

Also I hope the OP will update us about what the hosting company said about the issue.
