Names with a dash separating two great keywords any good?

Is there any value to a name which has a dash between two good keywords? For example, lets say that Energy-News.com was available. Would that be worth buying or does the dash completely ruin it?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

20% of my top traffic domains are with dash...
so I think it is good for traffic / less for selling.

Good for SEO, not so good for value. But if you develop and get traffic, then could be worth more than many non-hyphenated domains. It really all depends.

But forgetting about traffic and all that and just speaking on the value of only the domain itself and in general, hyphenated domains are worth less than non-hyphenated domains.

In other words, domainnames.com is worth more than domain-names.com. The reason should be obvious. If not, there are many threads about this. One is very new and should still be on the first or second page. Look for the word "hyphenated" not the word "dash".

Yes, I do know they are worth less. But are they worth much more than reg value? And remember, I'm just talking about great keywords, like your Domain-names.com example.

the answer is 'perhaps' depending on the name.
if it is a great keyword combination, then obviously yes.
if it is not, then it is a decision whether to reg the 2 word hyphen or a 3 word non-hyphen alternative.
there are some domainers who will not touch any (except premium?) hyphen names with a barge-pole...so-there...O-K?

does not completely ruin it, just don't try to sell it though.

I suppose the value would depend on the name itself and the keywords separated by the dash. Nevertheless the value of names with a dash is always considered less. They are good from the SE point of view.

The name I purchased (for reg fee) is Longevity-News.com.
