Namejet / Network Solutions Blunder

I received an email this morning, confirming my order via Network Solutions. I thought for a second, I didnt order anything from NSI, there shouldnt be any "orders"....

I check the email, its for a domain name which I won last month at NameJet. Suddenly, there is a renewal charge and a domain forwarding charge. I look through the receipt and their is someone else's name on it!

I check to see if there is a payment method on file (there isnt). I look and see the last 4 of the credit card doesnt match mine and neither does the name on the receipt. A quick historial whois check and it seems this may actually be the old owner who is being charged.....

Whaaaa....... More to come I would imagine.

Curious...
Was the email to a catch-all account on the domain you won, or did it get sent directly to your email? If it is the former, no worries... the latter... well, worries :td:

The email was sent to me, not a catch all.

That's no way to treat a "Gold VIP Customer," now is it? ;)
The Good-Samaritan thing to do might be to email him (whois history) and warn him he may need to watch his bill.

do you have control of the name? maybe it was renewed from the redemption period?

There's a key part in that email: the account holder. Rather "naturally", it can
make good sense for a company to notify an account holder of anything that
occurred within it.

However, I can't get around the bits that the domain name was acquired via
backorder, then subsequently received the email supposedly that the domain
and its forwarding service has been renewed. Sounds like someone dropped a
ball here, and it could be with a loud thud.

Go with Allan's suggestion to notify the card holder ASAP, if possible. There's
also a risk the domain name wasn't intended to be dropped.

I suppose this is possible. However, I have had the domain name for over a month....

Anything new on this?

If anybody wants to renew my netsol domains, feel free

Yes. an Update is due.

Apparently, the previous owner was able somehow to renew the domain name, via an email renewal he recieved. NSI assures me that at no point was my account in jeapordy and this was a fluke.

They are "giving" me the free renewal, and refunding the customer.

Justin

Good to see it's resolved, although I can only imagine what NetSol will now go
through dealing with that person who thought he renewed the domain. But oh
well, they're no stranger to that sort of issue.
