Open Letter to Network Solutions and NameJet

Dear Network Solutions and NameJet,

Today a domain name from a former Network Solutions customer was auctioned off on the NameJet platform. The domain name is a very common racial slur, Sand*****r.com. It is a domain solely of hate and refers to people of Middle Eastern and Arabic descent.

In an effort to promote tolerance and decency, I am petitioning your company to do something good with the proceeds of that sale. This is an opportunity to prove that its not all about the money, and that profiting from cruelty is not on your agenda.

The profit of this sale is approximately $840 minus of course the registration costs. If you would be willing to donate that to a reputable charity or scholarship, I myself will make a small contribution as well, as I am sure many others in this industry would.

Justin, while I agree with your sentiment, the sad fact is that the domain industry and drop-auctioning industry is ripe with hundreds, if not thousands of offensive domains that are sold/auctioned off on a monthly basis. I am unsure how any company could adequately monitor for all offensive domains. Your post already raises other questions as to enforceability and what should be deemed offensive.

Don't get me wrong, I see where you are coming from, but I think your request will: (1) fall on deaf ears, and (2) your request would be nearly impossible to grant on a perpetual basis.
