Namecheap transfer to GoDaddy slow

I know they say 5-7 days but in the past it has never been over 12 hours for me. I initiated a transfer yesterday morning and now well over 24 hours since hitting submit to the namecheap approval it still has not transferred. Godaddy still lists it as "Accept transfer with current registrar."

The domain may expire before it transfers so I tried renewing it at namecheap and get "Name cannot be extended. Registry response is: Object status prohibits operation".

Anyone else having problems transferring out of namecheap this weekend and what happens if it expires before it transfers?

Best thing to do is chat with Namecheap support.
Their top advantage as a registrar is their 24/7 chat support. 99.9% of the time I've solved my problems within 40mins (which is way better than the 24-48hrs with GD).

Personally I have never tried to transfer so from own experience I canโ€™t tell you much but I have seen my friend doing it and he was able to do it smoothly so itโ€™s strange that you are facing any problem now you should first in my view contact Namecheap as the issue should be from their side and in case if still your problem is not solved then contact GoDaddy.

Last week when I transferred a domain from namecheap to godaddy.
I followed the correct steps.
Paid at godaddy.
then got godaddy codes.
anyways, the bottom line was it took 7 days.
And the domain was in renew status when I trasnferred, so you should have no problems.
Just wait.

The one time I transferred from NameCheap to Godaddy, it took pretty much one day. I got the following email from NameCheap which I used to speed up the process:

"Namecheap.com received notification on Dec 15 2014 that you have requested a transfer to another domain name registrar. If you want to proceed with this transfer, you do not need to respond to this message. If you wish to either cancel or expedite the transfer, please respond to this message before Dec 20 2014 by using the following URL: ......................

If we do not hear from you by Dec 20 2014, the transfer will proceed."

I responded to the message and expedited the transfer. Godaddy Buy Service sent an email the next day - Dec 16th - saying they had it for the client they were buying it for.

@Cal2
Exactly what I have experienced. That's why I actually suggested he talked with the support.

I have transferred a few within the last 2 weeks and they all took 3-4 days. I got the same message as Cal2 and did it that way. I haven't gotten a name transferred in less than 3 day lately.

Namecheap is delaying transfer outs now, they are taking at least 5 days, if you talk to live chat, they cannot do anything about it.

For this reason, I will be moving all my domains out, and choosing a more friendly register.

I've transferred several out recently and they all took 7-10 days or more. Maybe they're thinking you'll change your mind if they drag it out long enough.

Are you guys receiving the same e-mail Cal2 and I received? If you go to that link and click the accept it will speed it up by 2-5 days. If you don't click on the accept then it will take a week.

I have done dozens over the last year and 4 days is the max it took.

Yes, I clicked on the accept link. They told me when I approve the transfer via email, the domain status changes to pendingTransfer in Whois, will not stop resolving after expiration and will be renewed once the transferred to GoDaddy.

Yet I did approve it and it never changed to pendingTransfer

The status didn't change for me either a couple times but a couple days later the transfer was finalized. It will take 3-4 days usually after you click the accept link so you still have a couple of days.

Namecheap takes longer than GoDaddy but that helps add to the security factor. If it only took a few hours after the transfer is initiated it would make it easier for someone to hack your account and steal your domain. We have had people on here get their domains stolen from GoDaddy for that reason. By the time the owner got to the email notification or to see the transfer processing in their GoDaddy CP the domain was gone.

GoDaddy does them so quick some times that they will be gone before you know it. Ask @photonmymind about getting one of her domains stolen from GoDaddy because of their transfer process.

I wonder if it has anything to do with location, or some other factor. I have never had any take that long.

I have 2 that I started the transfer and accepted on Friday and so I will see how long those take.

They recently changed the email so expedited transfers are no longer possible. It's now 5 days minimum and the change was made at Enom, not namecheap so there's no way around it.

I transferred a couple 12 days ago and got the expedited e-mail. I just started another transfer for one that was coming due and I got the new e-mail with no mention of an expedited transfer. However, the e-mail they sent said:
"If you want to proceed with this transfer, you do not need to respond to this message. If you wish to cancel the transfer, please respond to this message before Mar 21 2015 3:44AM by using the following URL:"

If you follow the link right below that it takes you to an approve / decline form with this option:

I Approve - Please transfer neatdownloads.com. I am one of the contacts currently listed for this domain name and I have the authority to approve this request. The transfer will complete within 5 days from the time the request to transfer was created. By approving I agree to all terms and conditions .

Click the "I Approve" and submit it and that's how you get 5 day transfers instead of the 7 day that some people are getting.

Since it says if you approve you don't have to do anything, most people are probably not going to the Approve/Decline page to cut a couple of days off the waiting period.

The email I got said if I want to cancel to follow the link before the 21st (6 days from now) so I think most people are not manually approving the transfers and just doing the waiting game since their new email doesn't say anything about manual approval.

I went ahead and just approved my transfer so I am going to test them to see if I get the 5 day transfer or not.

My whois record shows the expiration has been extended a year so it looks like it is going to work out eventually. I got worried since it no longer shows up on namecheaps control panel and I got an expiration email but support tells me not to worry.

Too bad for namecheap that enom's policy changes are effecting their business. I probably would have stayed with namecheap if they would offer better discounts on renewals.

They have changed how domains transferred out. Previously it took an hour or so for transfer like this to go through and now it is being delayed for days even for a week.
