NameAnarchy Pt I
To describe the name genre that accounts for most of my more recent registrations as, "different", would be an understatement. I've hesitated to go public w/ this category and the related, yet, multi-faceted subcategories that fall under it's umbrella, w/o laying a a conceptual foundation and w/o providing the market research for resting that foundation upon. (Market research that shows, among other things, a category with a dramatic rise in registrations over the past 6 mos, which, in turn, has led to an increased level of competition over names- an increase significant enough to define the category as "hot"), There are clues in my signature, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
This is the first of a series of posts that I plan to make on a name group that, for the time being, will appear under the headline, "NameAnarchy". This is Pt I "Why I Like X's".
A lexicon can be likened to a vast reservoir or tributary that holds all of the words that the users of a language have available to them. It is not a stagnant pool or a holding tank that has been capped off. New words "spring" up from the source, (users), and run down brooks and into winding streams before they come to edge of the resevoir, to the inlet, waiting to be filtered in. Conversely, at the other end of the reservoir, where the dam lies, one finds the words that are about to be released into the archives where they will be, later, they will enter the history books, found under the heading of "archaic." The point, here, is, that languages are dynamic and continuously undergoing change. While today's undesirable letters, including "X", will, perhaps, never be tomorrow's star's , they are gaining in popularity.
It's a nobrainer for anyone to see that most of the countries in the west that use Indo-Europeon based languages, (ie English, Spanish, German, French), have lexicons w/ a sparce supply of words that are composed of, or that begin with X. Despite this, I predict that "X" will show a substantial rise in popularity over the coming decade. Here's the reason why.
Just as sub-cultures continue to be absorbed into the primary culture of their society, (at a rapidly increasing rate), so, too, are major cultures of the world being drawn together, absorbed and homogenized into, what could be described as a, "super-culture". This inexorable movement towards a worldwide super-culture is guaranteed and supported by the rapid improvements and refinements in our communications technology, in tandem with, the increase in computer usage throughout the world. Soon, we will be a species that is totally wired together. Information and data transferral won't only be instant, it will be automatic. A vision that is far away and futuristic, you say? Well, so was the the idea of an internet around the middle of the previous century. Which leads us to X.
X is a popular letter that is frequently used in pinyin, one of the more popular (pseudo-?)languages, used to used to transform Chinese symbols into the letters of the western alphabet. (Symbols of a different type). As China emerges as a top world leader, it's influence on the West will increase, it's culture (and languages) will spread and the letter "X" will be appearing on our screens and in print more often. Going back to our earlier metaphor, an increased number of words beginning with, and/or composed using, "X", have, already, begun emerging from springs to the East and are spilling into the tributories and running into the rivers that feed the reservoirs that hold the words of the languages of the West.
Historically, letter combos beginning w/ X have had a high degree of popularity in product branding. Jaguar XQE, Windows XP, Xbox, and Xacto immediately come to mind. Additionally, X is an operative for "extreme", (XGames, Xsports), stands in for "extra", (XL, XXL) and, of course, who could possibly forget the famous threesome, XXX. X can be used to denote "by" (4x4), "Stop" or "Cross out", (XSpam), and "cross" (RRXing) (However, NB: "Using "Xing", for the English word "crossing" get's trumpted by another language. In pinyin Chinese, "xing", is a very popular word and among several other possible meanings, translates, roughly into, "good fortune". In the computer user influenced, "New Lexicon", X is commonly used to replace letter groups w/ similar sounds, (phoentic imitation), Ie. "ects", (Fx), "icks", (clix, kix are for kids), and "ics" (pix). X can also imply generic (BrandX)
If we take X one step further and replace specific letters, in select words with X, we move farther away from the literal, and begin to segue into the representational world of symbols, shapes, visual imagery and the subliminal- the area that my signature alludes to- a visual landscape where X's V's Z's P's Q's- all of the undesirables- not only are at home, but a world in which they are the building blocks, the centerpieces, the stars and, yes, the names that are prized the most for their value.
Now, what do we have, over here? I see someone peaking his nose out us. Well, well, well. Looky here? I think I see a couple of little Alphaglyphs... Uh-huh, yep... and I think that's Namicon I see, peaking out at us.. Hey! and a d00dle, over there! Looks like they just woke up from their naps and came up top to peep us out and see what all of this commotion has been about.

G: "OK, I guess that would be alright, x8v8x. Yeah, what the heck. We're domains, too, aren't we? We have the same url rights as every other domain- even those stuck with their high-falutin' letters. Why, they even think they own the damn internet. C'mon! Let's show them what d00dles and Namicons and Alphaglyphs are made of!! Bring as many of your numb3r budz as you want. But, just in case there's a big storm coming, everyone make sure to dress warm and bring along raincoats and hipboots.

You see, some folks don't take kindly to the new ideas that a new word culture brings along with it. Some people just get set in their ways and they want to feel that sense of security. New ideas threaten that. Some folks will ridicule you and may try to drag you down- some folks may even want to try to boot you out, to protect their ideas from what they perceive as a threat to their way of thinking. So if you hear me whistle, better start running for the doors and don't stop running until you get back home. OK?
