I don't get a ton of name inquiries so it's a nice feeling when you do. I received the pretty standard message "Is it for sale? how much it costs? thanks". I respond with "... please feel free to make an offer ....".

This was almost a week ago today and i've yet to receive a response. I usually get a couple of these no ressponse inquiries each year. You would think that if you went to the trouble of filling out the form that you would be interested enough to respond back to your e-mail.

I was just currious how many people receive the same type of thing and if there's anything that you can really do? I don't want to e-mail again since that makes you seem desperate to sell and that's maybe what they're waiting for. It's just very frustrating >:(

This happens often, for every ten e-mails I respond to results in one or two sales. Some folks are just pricing, with other names for their project in mind. Try and have an asking price set if you want/need a sale, but it's always nice having them send the first offer.

Some would just prefer you give them a price - there are a number of people out there that don't care to get into the offer/counter offer game and will just move on to something else.

I sometimes do this. If I like the name but I'm not too worried if I miss out on it then I will ask for a price. If I'm really interested in purchasing that particular domain (whether that be for personal use or for a client) then I'll make an offer.

They might have made 30 of these emails and picked another name to buy from a person that had gave them a price

They might be just looking for price to a comparable name they own. Kinda a free appraisal.

People can get down right mad if you dont have a sale price, especially if you state it for sale. "Its for sa;e but you dont know how much?" Heck domainers cant agreed on domain values, imagine what regular folks go through thinking how to value a name. Some choose to move on to the next name. They can even blame you for the deal going sour because you didnt offer a price.

I like the buyer spits out the first offer when i have a name I really want to dump but also know there somebody in the world that might really want the darn thing. So there a chance they will offer more than my dump value.

The next time I get an inquiry like this, instead of asking them to make an offer, i'll respond with a set price and see how that goes.

I guess we're all hoping for a big fish and don't want to scare anyone away with too large of price. I'll just have to evaluate the name in question more so I can set a realistic price for the name.

A year or so ago, I had an enduser contact me for one of my MMA releated .com names and I asked them to make an offer. They responded with "not more than reg fee" - something like that. Needless to say, they didn't get a response from me.

It's time to try something different since what i've been doing hasn't worked out so well. Thanks for the input! It helps to hear what other people have to say.
