I've developed it and had it for 3 years. But this feels good! Wiki did finally help me out by putting the keywords under a larger category and only keeping the keywords in the description, not the title. Keyword anchor links from higher PR sites are knockout punches. All it took was 3 from PR5 sites to finally go from #2 to #1. I was at #2 for a while before I got off my but and solicited those links.

I don't know how permanent this is but I was watching the listings and got a window into how the Google algorithm works. There was shuffling. I even dropped to #3 for a couple of hours one day . News and pictures where shuffled around too. I was at #1 for a few seconds a couple of times also, but now it's been solid for a day over many search attempt.

I'm reluctant to post the term and website on the forum, don't want to jeopardize all the hard work but if you are a regular member of the forum just PM me.

So there is hope! But for the record, you need original content. I researched the topic and even consulted experts. The site is only 8 pages though.

Very interesting to read about your observations of the shuffling that occurred after you made certain changes. Do you expect higher returns now you have overtaken #1 spot?

I definitely expect an increase in ad revenue. I'm really curious about the difference between #1 and #2 in traffic too. I really like the seo experience I'm getting from owning this site and I'm going to focus on applying that strategy to other sites.

It took a little thinking outside the box in how I got the anchor links. I even contacted one person who linked to the site with some generic wording and asked them to change it to the keywords... and they did! I have a way I solicit links from quality higher PR sites that improves my odds and keeps me from having to do a reciprocal. I just came across it by accident really. But again, this is based on actually having at least halfway decent content.

It's still #1 .. I too am curious how much better your results are so far.. I know it hasn't been long so it's hard to report anything yet probably.

Yes it would be interesting to know exactly how much more traffic you have received. According to some studies your traffic should have at least doubled or even tripled.

Well done!! I can imagine how good that must feel. I think time and effort is very important in the eyes of Google. By keeping the website for 3 years and updating it with relevent original content you have really shown Google that you are serious. The quality backlinks with relevent anchor text of course reinforces this.

I have recently started a new project which like you, I would rather not disclose exact details of. I am mainly targetting the UK (as it has the largest number of searches for the term, at around 20k local exact searches a month); but the content of the website should appeal to any English-speaking countries. It is currently a very young website (a few months) but is ranking competitively considering age.

I can only imagine the feeling if (hopefully when) I reach the number one spot. The first page of Google is dominated by large companies and ad competition is high; but I do have the advantage that my website is specifically about this one thing, whereas these companies are all focussing on several other 'things' as well as this thing.
