SEO question about overture and keywords

I know when searching for keyword domains, everyone usually goes by Overture, because it shows the number of searches for the month for that keyword. Recently I've started developing the domain in my sig and also downloaded a program called Web CEO. When doing keyword research in the program, I was startled to find that some of the biggest keywords in Overture (for my term 'emo') were showing up as hardly searched under the "Daily World Searches" category. And some of the keywords that had a bunch of daily searches, were hardly listed in Overture. So my question is, how do I know which keywords to go with for SEO? I'm getting completely contrasting results and I'm not sure which one to believe.

Secondly, I've been getting some contrasting opinions on the number of keywords I should use. Some places say the more you use, the more "hooks" you get out there and essentially a lot more traffic. But other places say that if you use fewer keywords, it will give them much greater weight. So to optimize traffic, which should I go with? I think i'd rather be close to the top of the searches for a few keywords than to be nowhere near the top for a bunch of keywords, and it seems like that would bring more traffic, but I'm not sure how it works.

I appreciate any help and I'll add rep for anyone that helps.

I would suggest using a tool such as this which is widely used in the SEO industry.

Which as you can see if you use the tool for your keyword "Emo" supplies a fairly good amount of daily searches. I would trust this tool more then Web CEO.

Regarding how to implement your keywords i would like to advise you not to use many different keywords on the same page since this would dillute your overall page for the search engines. The search engines would have more difficulty to understand what your site is about.

Optimize a page for each keyword would be my advise.

Create a page for "emo" + "emo kid" +"emo hair" and use related keywords at a minimum.

I would also advise to create pages for the lesser higher searches since these would be easier to target because if your competition is not heavily targeting those keywords then it´s a chance for you to get good SERP´s for these keywords.

This way you could bring the content with the higher searches under the attention by creating notices on your pages to these high related search topics.

So you would bring in traffic as well for these type of keywords.

Don´t use to many keywords on one page like for example using the word Emo and other related keywords that have high OVT. Target one keyword and optimize various pages for your keywords.

You´ll create better chances for improving your overall rankings this way :)

I apologize, it wouldn't let me add rep for you for some reason. That was an excellent response and I really appreciate it. I decided to basically just try to optimize "emo" for now on the main page. But I like the idea about adding seperate pages for different keywords. I think when I get some more time, I'll try to create some content for seperate pages, though its not really meant to be an informative site. It's basically just an entrance page for users to sign up and create their own blogs, kind of like Blogger, but for emo kids. But I guess to optimize SEO, I need to add some relevant content until I get users who fill the pages with their own content :)

Web CEO was helpful, because im new to SEO and it went over a lot of the basics and has a search engine submission thing, but yeah, I like the tool you linked to better for the keyword research.

Thanks again for your very informative help.

The more hooks are ok, just don't make these hooks different, like in your case the hook on the first page is "emo" and the more you use it, the better. The thing is you'll have to combine it with other words, like emo music, emo style and others.
When I tried "emo" in google I got 27 200 000 results :hehe: , but your project a non-profit one?
Do you need high PR?

I know "emo" has a lot of results, but looking at the competition, I think making it in the top 5 is an achievable goal. Obviously not overnight :) And my project is for profit. The service is free to users, but I apply an Adsense image ad on every blog. I've made $.20 so far! :)
