I doing SEO for a large site (20+ pages). What are the best practices in regards to the sub-pages of the site? Should I put keywords for sub-pages, and if yes how similar can they be to my home page keywords? What about description and page title, how long should those be and how similar to the home page? Is there anything else that can be done for SEO optimization?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

you shouldn't force your subpage to rank for random keywords. you should try to make the subpages rank for whatever content those pages contain.

I think keywords you use for subpages shouldn't be different, normal SEO principles is applicable to any webpage, just make sure you optimise the page for that keyword.

I think you should add useful content in the sub pages, then you should build some relevant and high quality backlinks for the internal pages/subpages.

Putting keywords alone cannot help much.

Each website has several keywords to target. Use the most imporatnt keywords on your home page. Target lesser competitive keywords for subpages. It is important to get links to these subpages as well

In general, what I do is I optimize 1 keyword/term per page so one keyword/term for one page, this way all your pages will be considered unique by search engines and you'll have better chance to rank for each keyword/term.

Linking the subpages back to the homepage is also a good way of optimizing the subpage

The internal linking structure of all you pages can play a major role in your rankings. Don't use links such as 'home', use your keywords instead

To me, a good url for subpages should include the title name of the page, for example : site(dot)com/page-title

Another Important thing I can tell you is to have the keyword in the URL of the page use those URL for getting backlinks..

You must deep link your website. You can use blog commenting, forums, directories for this purpose to get back links for your internal pages.

You should target few keywords through home page and few with internal page , your content should be very much relevant. You may use H1 tag , title tags for internal page as well.

Moreover you may go for URL re-writing and write URL of internal page as per keywords which you are targeting for that particular page.

You should try with all the deep link submission techniques as well.
