Seo URL's really neccessary?

Hi, I just used a SEO mod for my zencart which didnt work too well.

I never got 1 product page seo url'ed indexed so I thought I should change them back.

The mod was in BETA and I read about some problems and how search engines saw the URL's so I think it was the mod.


well my question is

does SEO url's matter a whole lot?

im mainly interested in the google search as yahoo and msn are just shit.


Does google have a good algorithm to index dynamic url's just as good as dynamic ones?


How much of a advantage do you get with Seo url's against dynamic url's?

I mean a seo url'ed site is hardly ever #1 in google.

Not a whole lot, but it helps. The way I see it, if you're competing with thousands or millions for your keyword then basic SEO will get you in the top 10%. But if you want to be in the top 10 results you need all the help you can get.

I always (try to) use this well known list as a checklist for my sites and I definitely see a difference.

I second the reference to that link kwan provided. Rand is very well known in the SE industry and that article has some great input from others also.

I ended up changing all url's to have a .html extension and days after google started indexing might have also been my 500 directory submission from a dp member that helped also :P
