Hi,
one my domain just expired during transfer,
I initiated transfer at 09.05.2006 and it started at 10.05.2006 and I got info from new registar that transfer will be complete after six days ...
so it will be 16.05.2006

but expiration date of my domain was 14.05.2006 and I got email from current registar that my domain is expired ...
so what I should do :

pay for renewal to may current registar or just wait and everything will be ok ??

This happens often, the only thing you can do is try to transfer earlier next time. I get drops all the time from people that lost it during transfer. If the domain is a good one, pay to renew on current registrar then there should be no problems. Waiting it risky IMHO. Cheers.

Yes I thought that transfer will take ~3 days
sad thing is that in this current registar renewal will cost me ~ $20 :(
and this is price of 2,5 years in this new registar :td:
btw: how long time it will be possible to renew it in current registar ?
redemption period - 30 days ?

I've had a a few names expire during a transfer from Godaddy. In some cases the name actually expired before the transfer confirmation request was sent to me. I was expecting to run into all sorts of problems and have to send nasty letters but the transfers all went through without a problem.

I don't recommend trying this, but I wanted to mention it.

it's so tight, just allow a week and another week for discrepancies or if something's wrong, avoid the room for mistakes it seeks the only option now is to renew the domain on your current registrar.

Did you renew it at the loosing registrar or did the transfer go through anyway? Also, if you did renew it, did you get the full two years (renewal+transfer) when it got to the new registrar? Also, can you say what registrars you were transferring between. Others might find all this information useful.

I didn't renew domain in my old registar - it was only two days delay from domain expiration date to transfer complete so I decided to wait ,
and everything is ok now :)

transfer was from nazwa.pl (onlinenic reseller) to dynadot

There seems to be no hard and fast rule. I have had cases like this where it transferred a few days after the actual expiration when the transfer was initiated before expiration. Unfortunately, some registrars play hard ball and won't authorized the transfer or release the name after the formal expiration date. You generally have at least a 10 to 30 day grace period at the old registrar to wait and see if the tranfer fails, before losing control of the domain or paying a redemption fee. As in the case above, it somtimes pays to be patient a few days and wait for a formal approval or denial of the transfer attempt. It's always best to do transfers at least 7-10 days before expire, but 14 to 30 days is even better, since it allows you to try again if the first one fails due to locking, a lost email or some other reason.
