Hello good people. I am trying to conceptualize this idea about how domains are valued. I was looking through the top domains section here. As an aside I hope I did not offend anyone with offers. As fate would have it, I came across an older domain. By older I mean it was offered in 2016. It does have age of course as well. Anyways it was a dot com. It is entertain dot com. I am not sure if the guy sold it, pulled it, or is still trying to sell it. He wanted six figures iirc!

Now to the reason for this posting. I have MrEntertain dot com. I do not have any illusions that my domain is as good as his. I also understand Mr does eliminate an entire gender. But what I am trying to understand is if entertain is a XXX,XXX domain where would the MrEntertain be slotted at?

Now this isn't primarily an appraisal thread. I am trying to better understand values. If we take any name . . . Health, Love, Sex, Discover, Power, Entertain, etc!! Well they are awesome. If I put an e or i in front or perhaps a u I am still good. Not as valuable but solid. How does Ms or Mr or Me or To or We, etc affect the value?

Thanks!!

I'm a bit traditional, so Mr Entertain doesn't work for me. I think that the prefix Mr should go before a noun, hence it should be Mr Entertainment. However, the internet has changed language about as much as McDonalds has changed food, so I may be out of date with this opinion. :)

Value is WHATEVER someone can get from someone else.

It is amazing though, for my request/proposal, I have some terrific folks here sending me great names and asking reasonable prices or some prices to move.... yet other sending completely mediocre names asking $5k or more..... and a few asking 6 figures for a completely mediocre name.

So... I see three levels for domain pricing.

1. Reg Fee - basically what most domains are worth or less.
2. Liquid domain prices - ie $175 to $200 for a run of the mill 4L .com
3. ANYTHING ELSE you can extract from an end user.

Ie... hatred . com may is worth AT LEAST $150k to Milo, but was not worth $5k or what not to a big lawfirm.

If you go into the SEO world... it is easier to get a value for a domain based on how much you can charge for links or posts.

If it is developed, at that point you can just value like other businesses, based on actual cash streams.

Think of it this way: do you get paid the same with a lottery ticket that is one number off as the guy who has all the numbers on his ticket?
A one word .com is high value because of its intrinsic business value and cash generation ability.

Entertain refers to vast array of various industries, companies or services that relate to providing a wide range of some form or kind of entertainment, amusement, etc.. MrEntertain, relates to 'one' person involved in such. So, who would be willing/able to pay more, a one person entity providing limited services at a time (can only be in one place a time) or a company/service that has a broader reach and can provide more 'entertaining' type services and options to more masses with more quality? One can search and find many more entities that would/may be interested in buying and using the Entertain domain, than hopefully finding that one person that may be a buyer of MrEntertain.

Imo, MrEntertain would be slotted light years below Entertain.

Makes sense. ientertain, eentertain, uentertain would be below entertain, but above MrEntertain right?

Like I said I agree with your points, but it still is difficult to understand the value of MrEntertain. And more broadly Mr (any word) compared to that one word. So entertain dot com let's say 100k. eEntertain? MrEntertain?

25k for the e
Maybe 2k for the Mr

Or 2k for e
Maybe 400 for Mr

?????

Thanks again for feedback

I think that MrEntertainment.com is worth far more than MrEntertain.com. I'd challenge you to find high value sales with random words thrown together or words that aren't quite proper English. I wouldn't bid on MrEntertain in an expiring auction, even if I could get it for under $25. MrEntertainment is a different story.
