For a lot of domain investors a short, generic, one word .io is something they are looking to buy. On top of that we have seen companies move from .com to .io. Back at the end of February Draw.io announced that at some point in 2020 they would be moving to diagrams.net. Well they are […]

Starting a business on a country code domain (.io British Indian Ocean Territory, .tm Turkmenistan, .su Soviet Union /ths ltd still exists/, .vc Saint Vincent and the Grenadines etc.) is not wrong by itself, even if the registrant does not reside in the country in question. The problem is stability and predictability, which should not be taken lightly. Somebody finally started thinking about it? A good sign.

As a side note, as gtld investor, I can only appreciate such registrations, as they in fact add more value to my domains ;)

P.S. A number of free speech / alt news sites are using .is Iceland domain - a good choice.

Thanks I'd never heard of this.

If we take the Gigaom article link provided as 100% unbiased and factually correct, then those with a moral compass should not be investing in .io domains.

How many NP domainers are prepared to do that?

The Brits at least deserve a tiny bit of credit for abolishing slavery decades ahead of the other 'progressive' nations.

Why are they focusing on Iceland Tony? I don't pay any attention to alt news so I am not familiar with this. Thank you.

It takes two seconds searching online to find that this is tittle tattle. The British Government have confirmed that they have never received a penny from it.

Even if it was true, for me it's just another bs social justice thing. Should we boycott .com, .us for the same reasons?

This is a nice read. At least it gives us hope. That domaining is still a viable business venture!

The IO politics is happening right as we speak so I am not sure.

It doesn’t look like they’re planning to sell .io.

Quoting the original article:

www.draw.io will continue to serve the application correctly, we won’t even redirect you.

The Atlassian integrations are not affected, they will continue to be branded as draw.io.

Thankyou - I wasn't sure if anyone would pick up on my poor attempt at sarcasm ;)

.IO is the future, I'm 100% sure that their price in the next 5 years will reach the 6 figure.
