This rule is mandatory and .mobi sites not implementing it will be turned off with due notice before the year end.

...so what does this mean exactly? The registrar will "turn off" the site?

I think it's a good move, even though I have a bunch of .mobis and no way to develop them all... But I guess a landing page that is .mobi compliant resolves that?

Yes it does. This is not to encourage development or parking -- it's to encourage proper development or proper parking. Sites that aren't made for mobile can be prohibitively expensive for mobile users and there's no better way to make their mobile web experience a living hell, than paying $5+ per MB and realizing the site you're visiting is megabytes in size, after the fact...

If the news is true, I`ll have to sell ALL my .mobi portfolio since I have no time to develop them......well except one...... Cairns.mobi :)

"Good" is an understatement! :imho: ... if this news is indeed true.

Would also like to hear where you saw this.

Nah, as Reece pointed out, the rule's goal isn't to force .mobi domains into development...rather, it's to ensure that what sites there are on .mobi's are mobile-ready. This could be huge for .mobi if the public begins to realize that .mobi really does have a purpose!

mobi blog (mtld.mobi) never mention about this.

Glad to hear that .mobi will start enforcement soon. The line quoted in the first post can be attributed to Neil Edwards at the mtld.mobi blog:
http://dotmobi.typepad.com/dotmobi/2007/08/from-burger-kin.html

The blog entry is quite useful in concisely explaining the .mobi compliance policies and available tools for achieving them.

The link above goes to the mtld blog -- which does mention enforcement starting by the end of this year.

Am I correct in believing that .mobi's parked with Sedo and Godaddy and resolving into their parked pages which are .mobi compliant and have a score of at least 3 with ready.mobi will be ok? Or will they be switched off too?

They better be. I would assume they would be ok. If not, there will be about 690,000 domains being revoked!

If .MOBI's are not developed with unique and compelling mobile content ... this includes any type of parked .MOBI "website" ... then they should be revoked (including mine that are not yet developed), IMHO. :yell:
Usual Suspectsโ„ข should be sternly reminded of this at the upcoming Traffic Show ... and should move aside for desired Eligible Buyersยฉ who will DEVELOP this content! :gl: :talk:

It's a whole new ballgame ... :imho:

I'm guessing parking at namedrive or sedo is fine? I don't have many mobis but would hate to lose them for something as silly as not having them resolve to a parked page!

Or I could just make one page landers featuring a take on that famous song -"It's my mobi and I'll do what i want to..." Of course replete with a hairy moon.

I'm sure services will pop up that build mobi compliant sites for the domainer...
cranking out several in a day should be no problem...

I'd like to see google have a seperate section of search for JUST
.mobi sites..... like they give the option to search for IMAGES,
VIDEO, NEWS, MAPS.... should add .MOBI there as well...

That's what I want to see. A "WhyPark" like service for .mobi's that produces content rich pages with adsense that get ranked good in SE's. Would be great.

I'm pretty sure parking on sedo or some place like that with a .mobi compliant park page should be fine. However, if they were to "turn off" those pages as well. The solution would be to make one great .mobi compliant site or page and point all of your names to it. But I highly doubt the need for that if it's parked on sedo etc... as long as the parking page is .mobi compliant.

If this happened, the marketplace .mobi pricing will drop rapidly. As majority .mobi are all undeveloped and owners wanted to recoup some capital quick before it too late.

I expected it just rumor. If true, it will have a bad impact on .mobi as this extension is not establish strong enough to face it.

That will be the .mobi bubble burst. :alien:

this has been the deal since day 1, why are people acting like this is new news? a mobi compliant parked page will be just fine - this doesn't change anything.

Sorry I posted this and then turned in for the night....this is not a rumor or anything and can be read - infact it says it multiple times - on one of the most recent dotmobi blog posts:
From Burger King to Mobile Sites

It is geared toward a usable site - following the basic primary 3 rules stated - imo this is no reason to panic - use site.mobi and make a simple info page if necessary.

The underlying goal behind .mobi is that users can be assured that the site will work on there phone/device. Without that, what is .mobi? Why would it be any different from .net?

THe value in .mobi is mobile use, mobile function, mobile design.

If that can't be enforced, then .mobi is "just another extension" (think .info .biz).

I love the idea of a Google.mobi search that only returns .mobi sites - but again, that function is useless if the .mobi sites are parked or otherwise using standard "big screen" coding.

dotmobi is doing the right thing here, and it's good for everyone invested.

Exactly.
No need to get one's knickers in a bunch.
