A lot of people don't know that .mobi sites will lead to mobi compliant pages, let alone .mobi itself.
I think here are the ways to effectively promote your .mobis (assuming you want to target people browsing through phone)
1. Buy advertisement in sites (or google adwords) where your potential audience visits frequently
2. Develop a PC version of your .mobi site. If it's MySuperbWebsitePortal.mobi, Develop pc.MySuperWebsitePortal.mobi, optimize it for search engine and promote the mobile version of your website (including details of how big (kb wise maybe) your mobile version of site is.
This way, at least you have two ways of making ad revenue (if your site makes money from ad primarily).
