.mobi .MOBI Showcase Thread

Hey, I thought there should be a thread where users can showcase there newly acquired .MOBI domains!


Heres mine to start off with:

Or... to put this another way, who's gonna find m.gmail.com on their mobile if everyone is looking for a mobi?

This is exactly the point... Consolidation and Standardization.

On your desktop, you can type ext to your heart's content. Use a multitide of search sites, flip through pages... on and on.

The diversity of websites is overwhelming!

Not really, but it would be on a mobile.

The point of mobi is to reduce all the variables to one standard applicable to the mobile.

And yes, I do believe it's the future of mobi to be the default for portables... but I think the plot is deeper than that. I think that under the guise of "being compliant" many emerging content providers, search engines and pre-programmed software (shortcuts, ads, hotkeys, soft keys, etc) will be RESTRICTED to mobi websites. Which means that the vast advertising platform they are creating for Portables will perfer (if not exclusively) accept mobi sites over other dots.

THAT'S when the "real" landrush will happen. People/Companies will panic as they realize that this entire niche market was built specifically for mobi.

But... then.... isn't that what they've been saying all along?

the .mobi extenstion does give the fingers a workout 1666622444 just to get .mobi. but the dot .com is 12226666 so the .mobi is only two extra keys. Not a deal breaker imho, especially when the user KNOWS they are going to be getting a site designed for their phone.

Oh, so the needle is in the vein? I still just have my 3 b/c of my PP cash only rule - but I just got a nice fat Google check in the mail....

Truth be told, I found about 10 great names yesterday including calculus, geology, usage and some other nice ones I can't remember. I decided to follow my rule and not buy... Then, suddenly today in a complete moment of weakness, I rushed to godaddy an loaded them all in the search to buy..... ALL GONE!!! Actually has me wondering if Wang Lee is tapped into the .mobi whois database... :ghost:

If you have some inside track to this info let us know. I've heard this rumored but haven't seen anything credible yet. It makes a lot of sense and I hope it happens. I will definately by more names on the 11th if this is a for sure thing!

Current .mobi search on google brings up a total of 42,000 .mobi pages indexed. Only 93 results are unique with the rest being duplicates per google. Let's see how many get indexed when the next google update runs.

I noticed however, that some of the pages are godaddy parking pages. I hope more people will be developing their .mobi sites. I, myself have purchased godaddy's Website Tonight program to develope my one site. :cy:

Anyone know exactly how to set up a mobi site? Has anyone done it yet? I tried for an hour with the guy at dreamhost but we couldn't get it to validate across the browsers without running into problems. I used the template mobi offers - just the index page (index.xhtml). It needs to validate as XHTML Mobile 1.0. Basically I'm asking how you technically set it up (I don't need a template). Do you set the htacess any particular way etc? Thanks for any ideas.

I would also like to know if anyone has set up a site yet, and how you done it? But also does anyone have a template made?

I haven't really got a site up, just a psuedo nothing page. I just copied the html from one of the example sites and changed the text. You can check it out at mwp.mobi. No links or anything just some text so I could view it and see how it looks. You can choose "view" in ie and and then source to copy the html if you want.

What are the differences between making a normal website to a mobi site apart from it being much smaller? Like are there any rules that .mobi wants us to obey? eg the size of the page, .xhtml or .html? I am looking at the mobi website now, but if someone knows the link already that would be great!

MobiDesigns.mobi (and .net) will soon be finalized and offering compliant and validated templates for your mobi.

I'm shooting to release a dozen or so templates and also a mirrored "dot site" option as well.
