The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
GoDaddyGoDaddy
My second and last one...

TeeVee.mobi - I hate the spelling, but love the concept. :xf.love:

Oddly, teevee is taken in every major tld and many of the minor cctlds.

Oooo... vPhone... that's a Verizon TM. I know, I have a vPhone :)

Cross your fingers on that one. I decided against a very good mobi name that was available due to potential TM issues....

Sell it QUICK :)

There's a DEAD TM for vPhone ... that's it, I checked. vTalk is safe, too.

Its funny....
I PREMIUM pre-regged with Euro DNS hundreds of .mobis, and I got only 1 :bah:
(ViPod_mobi) where I also have the .com version.

Eaven GoDaddy seems faster than EuroDNS when checking the WHOIS for my "lost" names.
Strange ..... ???

I saw a lot of .mobi PARKED at Sedo. e.g: sexnet.mobi
GUYS/GIRLS seems you didnt read the .mobi TOS !

In a nutshell:
A non mobi optimized/designed page is subject to take the domain away from you !

Regarding the "awfull names" comment - YES right !

Remember that .mobi names will have to be linked somehow with mobile devices mostly.
So IMO many of the "normal" good names probably donยดt suit with .mobi

PS:
If you reg .mobi to resell, be prepared to pay renewal several years untill they really raise value.

I just noticed that the GD parking page is optimized.

Can't keep doing this but...
SportsTicker-mobi
KCMO-mobi as in Kansas City Missouri and KCMO radio except their Web site is 710KCMO-COM.

3322.mobi
6655.mobi
8882.mobi
7888.mobi
9996.mobi
0991.mobi (A Capital City Code of a China province, all these type numbers gone)
3999.mobi

I think numbers inputting is more convenient on Cell PHONEs and those numbers are easy to remember. and very good numbers for Chinese .

Okay, I broke down and registered three. I have another list of about 20, but I think I'll wait until the premium prices fall to check on them. Here's what I got.

FuelPrices.mobi
PhoneSupplies.mobi (I also have phonesupplies.com)
PhoneSupply.mobi

The first was one I thought would be popular with people on the road. The second two make a good site for selling mobile phone chargers, batteries, cases, etc.

I don't get the .mobi pull...I have a very basic "mobi" site that gets a few hundred visitors per day but it is not a "dot mobi" site but just a simple website designed for mobile phones and from what I have heard from my users they prefer to type less...so my site wap.giantweed.com is better than using the .mobi extension because there is an extra finger move! D'uh!

I wouldn't spend the extra coin on a mobi site when a reguklar and cool dot com with a decent subdomain can do the same. Why would I push anything else but http://wap.giantweed.com when a mobi extension would cause my users fingers to fall off?

I guess when we can all bookmark our favorite sites on our mobile it will be ok but until then I'd rather just use the traditional cool dot com names... dontcha like my name? This name wap.giantweed.com only works with mobile phones...aka .mobi phones d'uh!

The propogation of such new and "innovative" domain extensions is quite convenient for the registrars and those who can extract reg fees from speculators faster than the Enron retirement gang!

Cheers

I don't think "registrars" have anything to do with the creation of this "innovative" domain. The creaters of this domain include the likes of Microsoft, Vodafone, T-mobile, Nokia and Google...yes BIG G too....no reasonable person would imagine any of these industry giants giving a crap about milking us...the domain speculators....they're all in this together and the real "speculation" is that they are onto something that's likely to be really Big....but as to exactly what and how...we really don't know yet. Many have reasonable ideas but no one knows for sure as to how these big players intend to leverage this new domain that they have created. Each one of these companies are worth in billions with a solid track record...they are not stupid....IMO, wise are those who observe these things keenly and act on them in a timely fashion rather than having deja vu of 90's (for .coms) and 2001/02 (for .infos & .us) all over again in 4-5 years. I was not there for .coms but I've NEVER regretted taking part in landrushes and early regs (first few days of open registrations) for the newer extensions that I participated in such as .info, .biz, .us, and .in. The kind of names one can get in these early days would be a dream in just few short weeks, and if one does not attempt to be too innovative in name selection, you can almost always get your money back plus some for these names down the road.

Just my $0.02 based on 6+ years of domaining. Take it or leave it...Cheers.

the .mobi extenstion does give the fingers a workout 1666622444 just to get .mobi. but the dot .com is 12226666 so the .mobi is only two extra keys. Not a deal breaker imho, especially when the user KNOWS they are going to be getting a site designed for their phone.

What would a 9 letter word like Broadband.mobi require to be typed?

Of course, it's not the same issue for those with mobile devices featuring mini keyboards.

Hey, people, how "wap." + ".com" can be shorter than ".mobi"??? 8 letters VS 5 letters, IMHO :)

QWERTY keyboards baby... Don't over anylize how people will feel about typing in domains.

When was the last time you typed in a PHONE NUMBER on your phone?

HotKeys, Quick Dial, Contact List... mobi Hotkey, Saved Sites and "instant on" search features... THAT is the future of mobi devices.

Backed by a multi-million dollar "education" campaign to ensure both users and owners know and prefer the mobi on these devices.

You wait, you wont be able to get on this "faster, new network" and their quick links and hotkeys and instant-on browsers UNLESS you are a mobi. Suddenly, if you want a mobile presence, you might find yourself faced with an unavailable mobi to match your website.

What a shame that would be.

I think on key point most are banking on is that .mobi will become the default extension on mobile devices. You might just have to enter the domain and no extension and .mobi will be added by default. If that's the case, it will have the same advantage .com does in some browsers.

Also, Most phones have software that let you select an extension as a click or two from a drop down box. Again, I think think most are banking on .mobi being at the top of the drop down list.

B4 you go crazy and give your cc a real workout, think about this. For mobi to take off, a lot will depend on adoption and standards.

Take goog for instance. gmail does not have a .mobi site; however, they (goog) took a different avenue by creating a mobile device subdomain for gmail:

http://m.gmail.com

I might be wrong, but a lot will depend on whether or not the big boys use .mobi and adhere to the .mobi standards.

While domain registration is cheap, the administration and re-development required to support the .mobi may not be worth it since 800 lb gorillas like goog already have a workable solution in place.

Just my 2 cents.

Why would the 800lb gorilla help create .mobi if it doesn't plan to use it?
