.mobi .MOBI domains dropping like hot potatos at TDNAM

I guess the bad economy is making domainers drop their .mobi domains. They are starting to plaster the drop lists at TDNAM.

Anyone else noticed this?

just for LLL.Mobi alone there are over 2500 names
and over 15k for the whole lot

That's because when .mobi started you had to register them for two years, and registration was open to the public in late August of 2006.

Wow! I'm surprised so many LLL.mobi are dropping. If memory serves me correctly, they were selling pretty easy for $40 or so even about a month ago!

Most of these were probably purchased by domainers, parked somewhere worthless, have zero traffic and zero pages indexed at Google. Just plain two years of wasted money and wasted time.

I hand regged around 130 LLL.mobi and sold 115 of them in bulk for $120 each when the resell price was in $130 - $140 range. I took a loss at that time. :yell:

3character.com is wildly inaccurate on both LLL.mobi and NNN.mobi... i can barely sell crappy 3 letter .mobi for $25ea... and random NNN.mobi would struggle to get $100ea consistently.

if someone offloaded a couple hundred junky LLL.mobi in a firesale right now the price would quickly fall to regfee.

Are you talking about the guy who bought like 4000 of them in '06 before they ran out? If so, I feel really bad for that guy... He would have cleared a half million pretty easily having sold them shortly after buyout.

Im not surprised at all. People regged dot mobi domains with a
dot com mind and they still do looking at the current regs of dropped
mobi domains.
If you don't have a service to offer that suites a mobile c.q cell phone
you should not reg the name. As simple as that.

If you own a dot com site and you think there is something in it that
you can brand for a mobile site you could consider to buy a dot mobi
for that specific service, only for branding purposes.

Nevertheless im convinced there will be a significant number of dot mobi
sites in the future but not nescecarely with a mobile ready lay-out as
MTLD wants to force at this moment and what they never will achieve

Headstart not a bad post for being so new.

I guess along with everyone else we regret not selling at the heights. I have dxd.mobi which now...I feel like crap for not selling when I had 2 seperate $300+ offers. Now it's not even worth reg fee. Go figure.

If they are high quality yes, but easily 99% are pure junk.

Unless you are rich, its hard to hold thousands of domains for any speculative tld.
