Worth also noting if you are searching google there are huge amounts of articles saying VR and AR is the future.

This is to be expected at the moment because no company has yet done a push for mixed reality.

But some pretty big companies are clarifying their tech is not AR it is Mixed Reality (MR)

Just remember this little equasion guys

VR + AR = MR ;)

Mixed Reality is a new format. It doesn't do just VR or AR. It combines elements of both and creates a new reality that interacts with the world around us.

You have to hope it sticks though, I know Apple are all about Augmented Reality, believe it is going to be bigger than Virtual Reality and Apple have confirmed they are making an โ€œAugmented Reality headsetโ€ and a headset of Augmented Reality is what Microsoft call โ€˜Mixed Realityโ€™.

https://mspoweruser.com/bloomberg-confirms-apple-developing-augmented-reality-headset

Even that article calls HoloLens Augmented Reality :banghead: lol. I've tried to give Mixed Reality a chance but for me thereโ€™s just too much confusion around the term 'Mixed Reality' to investable other than registrations.

Augmented Reality is investable because you know that term has a future even if an Augmented Reality headset is not called โ€˜Augmented Realityโ€™ as Augmented Reality through your smartphone (like Pokemon Go) will be called โ€˜Augmented Realityโ€™.

Big question mark is the term โ€˜Mixed Realityโ€™ - Does that have a future? It's ok saying Microsoft and MagicLeap call it 'Mixed Reality', Apple call it Augmented Reality though and a lot of other companies/people do too more so than they do 'Mixed Reality' if Google trends and Twitter search is anything to go by.

I hope I'm wrong, honestly do mate.

I want to see everyone do well on here, be fantastic if we can all look back in 5-10 years and say we done well.

But as of now, if people who knows about this stuff are confused and 2 of the biggest companies on earth have 2 different terms what they call the same tech, it doesn't hold well for a random member of the public buying one of these headsets for their son or grandson in 5 years does it?

There has to be a collective agreement what everything is called and that means either Microsoft or Apple are going to have to adapt to the other and that's not going to be easy.

MR is going to be the dark horse, Hints are all over the place, but i dont wanna do it here.
Lets leave the AR MR talk to the other thread or private talks.

If you know Apple are all about "just" AR you have hit the jackpot mate :)

Go in hard on AR because I can guarantee that whatever term Apple goes for will instantly become the "in thing".

Just this little warning though. I am pretty confident from my research that Apple are not all in on AR.

To be honest I will be suprised if they come out and say this tech is AR or MR. They are very likely to try and create their own market.

The source I go by knows apple insiders and they have confirmed Apple are working on a mixed reality device/glasses. I asked him do you think they will brand themselves differently from their competition?

His answer was yes, just like they did with "Retina"

Apple are such a secretive company. By tim quoting they are interested in AR over VR is the obvious statement to make. That doesn't mean that Apple are all in on AR ;)

More then that lol, at the moment cook said AR is bigger then VR and AR is something we are into i knew they wont brand as AR. Im not sure they will brand with something specific but focus on giving the best experiences

Oh, now im sucked into it lol.

Think windows 10, then think MR
Then think mass adoption.
Think Magic leap, think a company that is making an independent os and supply chain with more then 2 billion investment and its not over.
Think ML trademarks and their big focus
Think tons of big companies using hololens as a industrial device and embracing MR, think Studios working with hololens embracing MR.
Think silent startups working on MR (i know about a lot, its just quiet like it should be.
Its not 2 companies, its just silent mode ;) but its boiling slowly.

Besides MR is not AR.
MR is the combo.

Maybe it's AR (Apple Reality) vs. MR (Microsoft Reality). :)

From a linguist point of view "mixed" is shorter and easier to pronounce than "augmented". Mixed might appear more logical..who the hell actually knows what "augmented" means and that is derived from the Latin verb "augmentare" (at least should be)?

But after all it's also about marketing and branding, so time will tell.

AR is not mixed reality.

Mixed Reality is not AR.

They are two different tech's.

People are seeing AR at the moment because it is a tech that can be achieved with a smart phone and a current tech that is being pushed!

The public have yet to see mixed reality so far. Unless they purchased the $3000 microsoft developer addition, which in it's current position would be pointless.

No company is making a current push for MR, but it is a future tech that is planned to be pushed in 2017-2018.

I was reading the AR thread only earlier today and someone experience was saying in 2015 the term AR won't come to anything as the correct term is "Holo". That is how quickly trends can change.

People keep saying companies are calling mixed reality AR. Mixed Reality has not even been pushed as yet.

AR will have successful uses. But there is a massive difference between AR & MR.

I am in no way against AR. I have recently been making a few aftermarket purchases and have my fingers crossed AR will take off big ;)

Btw, that can work :)

They reached their goal 18 days before deadline. Cheap MR kit.

AR is not mixed reality.

Mixed Reality is not AR.

Yeah they aren't exactly the same. As I understood it they share common features though which in my opinion can create confusion. And I would say that right now most end users don't even know a difference which is of course also, because MR hasn't been pushed yet. So then it might/will change.

This reminds me on an interesting thing from Germany.

The German tissue producer "Tempo" was so successful in its branding for their product (tissue/handkerchief) that many people use the brand's name "Tempo" to describe a tissue, for example when asking another person for one.

Yes exactly mate.

Microsoft/Magic Leap and a bunch of other companies will soon be pushing the MR term.

People are trying to check google trends for a tech that isn't yet being pushed.

AR & MR will both make it but they are so differen't. MR is way more advanced but that doesn't mean it's better than AR. AR will probably be better suited and accessible for someone with a standalone smartphone.

Domain Status Deleted And Available Again

I hate domains with the free keyword (bad memories / worthless traffic). But i make a exception for this cam domain and try to upsell free to 1 on 1. This domain has the potential to sell to a end user if i am not asking a crazy amount of money for it.. In the current cam market upselling or token based freemium content is very populair.

Domain Name: MRFREECAMS.COM
Updated Date: 29-may-2016
Creation Date: 24-jul-2007

The domain above is not mine but parked. It is a good sign it is parked and regged in 2007. Must be getting some traffic to be worth renewing.

Nice little mix from two articles. Hopefully this shows that AR & MR will be two tech's.

Like I have tried explaining before. No one is yet pushing MR but the companies that plan to will be doing so pretty shortly.

People keep mentioning Apples intentions but until 2017 next September no one will know Apples real intention.

All I know is it is supposed to be an epic launch that will send shockwaves through the entire tech industry.

Yes Apple are working on a tech that will be capable of AR like technology. But mixed reality devices are also capable of AR and have the added benefit of displaying more complex mixed reality applications. ;)

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/55158/magic-leap-disruption-machine-market/index.html

Magic Leap is a 'disruption machine' for every market

We're going to have fully immersed worlds with VR, AR and mixed reality - all from tiny devices while high-end gaming is taken care of by the GPUs of 2018 and beyond.

Neither a VR game nor Pokรฉmon Go can do what Magic Leapโ€™s โ€œmixed realityโ€ does. VR takes you to another place. AR can make a Pikachu appear in your living room. Mixed reality keeps you where you areโ€“and makes that Pikachu come to life.

When youโ€™re wearing the device, it doesnโ€™t block your view of the world; the hardware projects an image directly onto your retina through an optics system built into a piece of semitransparent glass (the product wonโ€™t fry your eyeballs; itโ€™s replicating the way we naturally observe the world instead of forcing you to stare at a screen). The hardware also constantly gathers information, scanning the room for obstacles, listening for voices, tracking eye movements and watching hands.

As a result, mixed-reality objects are aware of their environment and have the ability to interact with the real world.

POST FROM ROBERT SCOBLE THIS MORNING WHO INTERVIEWS MANY TECH INSIDERS:

If mixed reality glasses are popular you will never buy another:

1. TV.
2. MacBook.
3. Phone.
4. Headphones.
5. Monitor.

Mixed Reality is what Microsoft and others are calling "next generation augmented reality." Things like Microsoft HoloLens, Meta, Magic Leap, or whatever Apple is bringing out next September (I say it's a new, clear, iPhone, that does mixed reality).

Because I believe this I really don't care if Apple is bleeding the computer line because it knows that line is dying quickly.

If you wear the glasses you will have virtualized versions of all the above.

That's where we are going next.

Of course this is all true, except why am I hearing rumors about Apple doing a TV all of a sudden?
