The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
AR is not mixed reality.

Mixed Reality is not AR.

They are two different tech's.

People are seeing AR at the moment because it is a tech that can be achieved with a smart phone.

The public have yet to see mixed reality so far. Unless they purchased the $3000 microsoft deleloper addition, which in it's current position would be pointless.

Btw, that can work :)

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/713418541/zapbox-experience-mixed-reality-for-just-30

They reached their goal 18 days before deadline. Cheap MR kit.

Yeah they aren't exactly the same. As I understood it they share common features though which in my opinion can create confusion. And I would say that right now most end users don't even know a difference which is of course also, because MR hasn't been pushed yet. So then it might/will change.

This reminds me on an interesting thing from Germany.

The German tissue producer "Tempo" was so successful in its branding for their product (tissue/handkerchief) that many people use the brand's name "Tempo" to describe a tissue, for example when asking another person for one.

Yes exactly mate.

Microsoft/Magic Leap and a bunch of other companies will soon be pushing the MR term.

People are trying to check google trends for a tech that isn't yet being pushed.

AR & MR will both make it but they are so differen't. MR is way more advanced but that doesn't mean it's better than AR. AR will probably be better suited and accessible for someone with a standalone smartphone.

Handreg in king:

MRFreeCam

Domain Status Deleted And Available Again
Whois History 71 records have been archived since 2007-12-24
IP History 78 changes on 42 unique IP addresses over 9 years
Registrar History 2 registrars with 2 drops

Google keyword planner monthly searches:

10 – 100
mrfreecam

I hate domains with the free keyword (bad memories / worthless traffic). But i make a exception for this cam domain and try to upsell free to 1 on 1. This domain has the potential to sell to a end user if i am not asking a crazy amount of money for it.. In the current cam market upselling or token based freemium content is very populair.

Domain Name: MRFREECAMS.COM
Updated Date: 29-may-2016
Creation Date: 24-jul-2007

The domain above is not mine but parked. It is a good sign it is parked and regged in 2007. Must be getting some traffic to be worth renewing.

Nice little mix from two articles. Hopefully this shows that AR & MR will be two tech's.

Like I have tried explaining before. No one is yet pushing MR but the companies that plan to will be doing so pretty shortly.

People keep mentioning Apples intentions but until 2017 next September no one will know Apples real intention.

All I know is it is supposed to be an epic launch that will send shockwaves through the entire tech industry.

Yes Apple are working on a tech that will be capable of AR like technology. But mixed reality devices are also capable of AR and have the added benefit of displaying more complex mixed reality applications. ;)

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/55158/magic-leap-disruption-machine-market/index.html

Magic Leap is a 'disruption machine' for every market

We're going to have fully immersed worlds with VR, AR and mixed reality - all from tiny devices while high-end gaming is taken care of by the GPUs of 2018 and beyond.

Neither a VR game nor Pokémon Go can do what Magic Leap’s “mixed reality” does. VR takes you to another place. AR can make a Pikachu appear in your living room. Mixed reality keeps you where you are–and makes that Pikachu come to life.

When you’re wearing the device, it doesn’t block your view of the world; the hardware projects an image directly onto your retina through an optics system built into a piece of semitransparent glass (the product won’t fry your eyeballs; it’s replicating the way we naturally observe the world instead of forcing you to stare at a screen). The hardware also constantly gathers information, scanning the room for obstacles, listening for voices, tracking eye movements and watching hands.

As a result, mixed-reality objects are aware of their environment and have the ability to interact with the real world.

POST FROM ROBERT SCOBLE THIS MORNING WHO INTERVIEWS MANY TECH INSIDERS:

If mixed reality glasses are popular you will never buy another:

1. TV.
2. MacBook.
3. Phone.
4. Headphones.
5. Monitor.

Mixed Reality is what Microsoft and others are calling "next generation augmented reality." Things like Microsoft HoloLens, Meta, Magic Leap, or whatever Apple is bringing out next September (I say it's a new, clear, iPhone, that does mixed reality).

Because I believe this I really don't care if Apple is bleeding the computer line because it knows that line is dying quickly.

If you wear the glasses you will have virtualized versions of all the above.

That's where we are going next.

Of course this is all true, except why am I hearing rumors about Apple doing a TV all of a sudden?

Handreg in king:

MRCasinoPoker

Not a important domain but good enough for a handreg.

The reason for the handreg is because:

1. All the casinopoker combo's for .com/.net/.org and country domains are taken. (good sign)
2. Search volume:

Google monthly searches:
casino poker
1K – 10K

Google monthly searches:
casino slots
1K – 10K

http://variety.com/2016/artisans/production/weta-workshop-augmented-reality-1201925177/

With more than two dozen films under his belt and three dozen awards, Richard Taylor, the founder and creative director of New Zealand film-props and effects powerhouse Weta Workshop, has managed to keep his company relevant in a world where CGI-heavy post-production has become the norm.

His next big project is being developed in conjunction with Florida-based Magic Leap, a company run by inventor Rony Abovitz. The collaboration represents Weta’s first foray into AR (augmented reality) and MR (mixed reality) — technologies that combine virtual reality and the real world.

The relationship between Weta and Abovitz dates back several years. “Before there was Magic Leap, we were developing a project with Rony called Hour Blue, a film concept he had that we were designing for him,” says Taylor. It was in trying to create that unique story that Abovitz realized he needed new technology to make it happen.

“That’s what Magic Leap is,” Taylor says.

Suppose I should mention that I traded some domains for MixedRealityAd dot com with a member here. I'm happy with it because I previously owned MixedRealityAds, so the single version completes my set.

All you need to do now mate is buy my domains:

Advertising MR (.com)
Ads MR (.com)

To completely complete your set ;)

Just kidding.

But seriously advertising should be a big part of the mixed reality sector so all the best with your names :-D

Well I have seen your name pop up on many whois searches I have tried to do over the past few months.

To say you have a top notch MR portfolio is an understatement.

If MR term becomes big you better be throwing us domainers a party at your mansion lol ;)
