At a two-hour event in New York on Wednesday, Microsoft unveiled the new version of Windows 10, called the Creator Update.

The Creators Update also features a game broadcasting service called Beam that takes on Amazon's massive Twitch service. A way to stream gameplay for others to follow along, Beam has social features and an interactive chat to let spectators suggest the next move.

Just to clarify what think, I believe in Mixed Reality, I think the tech has got a great future - What i have my reservations about is the 'MR' abbreviation in domain names.

Mixed Reality (MR)

1. People will shorten it. It is human nature. Consumer search query for Chat Application is shortend to Chat App.

2. Because of the rise from nowhere there where great opportunities to handreg premium domains like PokerMR for only the reg fees. In the case of VR a lot of premium domains where regged years and years ago. Yes it is / was a kind of gamble to reg MR domains but in my case i have build a huge premium MR portfolio with all kind of niches coverd for only reg fees. Because of this i can expect a huge ROI the way things are going.

3. Don't put all your eggs into one basket. Yes my VR portfolio is very important to me but when you have more money to invest it is wise to look into other tech (diversify). Why leaving food on the table when you can take it and make a profit down the line? I think it is important to not get a tunnel vision and only focus on 1 thing. Even when VR and MR markets are maturing the next 10 years i will let my eyes open for the next big thing...

Yeah but 'Mr' also means a man. Just my opinion, but it sounds silly next to various keywords in domain names, would future Mixed Reality companies want the name of their companies to called mrp*rn, mrtravel, mrgirls etc? (say these words out loud) I can't see it personally.

Also in 5 years, when people say VR will be glasses rather than bulky thing it is now and Mixed Reality is already glasses, how will you be able to disguish between both devices? The public don't like to be confused so from a marketing pov things will be simplifed.

Personally i can see all devices being classed as VR and only the real geeks will know HoloLens is actually Mixed Reality.

Truth is mate there is only a small minority who think the MR term will be sucessful.

Whenever I post anything related to mixed reality in the holo vs mr vs vr vs ar thread it usually only gets one or two likes. if I posted something about VR or AR there would be loads of likes lol

There is nothing wrong with anyone having their opinion. I invested into the MR term with the same reservations as you, it is only the last two months that I have become increasingly confident that the term as (what I would call a 95%) chance of making it.

Why do I think this?

- Research
- Listening to mixed reality tech insiders
- Asking questions directly to insiders and seeing evidence from other members of this thread who have contacted microsoft, magic leap, CastAR etc

Anyway moral of this story. There is nothing wrong with you having you're doubts. If you look back through this thread you will see at some stage I was even saying I don't think MR will work

Most people in the world don't have englisch as a native language. In China, Europa, Russia and most of the world MR is perfectly brandable for Mixed Reality. And there is a difference between Mr. or MR withoud the dot and with the extra capital. One can add the MR at the end of a name to make 100% sure to not get confusion.

A company can call their startup DatingMR but have in their title: DatingMR - The Dating app for Mixed Reality.

MR term will be used extensively in the next 2-3 years . You will hear it so much so your perception of what is MR will change .
