Mixed reality racing setup demonstrates how good virtual reality can be

Virtual reality sounds great on paper, but in reality it’s hard to experience without actually experiencing it first hand with all the kit. If you want to show off a game, you throw a gameplay video up on YouTube. Doing the same for virtual reality experiences is tough, because you can’t show people the experience easily. There may an a solution, though, and it comes in the form of a green screen.
The technique is called chroma key composting and has been used extensively in movies. You record some action in front of a green screen and then add a second layer of video over the green background in post production.
Marcel Pfister has used this technique to demonstrate the experience of playing a racing game while wearing an Oculus Rift DK2. It’s the best example I have seen of the virtual reality experience without actually wearing the kit.
