This is an incredibly well-done, man-made creature. $1500 is a bargain considering how much time and effort went into making it. I wonder if the skeleton he used was a real human medical model or not. That would add considerable expense into the project.

This seller has sold other creatures like this in the past, though not as large. Check out one of his past auctions... http://cgi.ebay.com/Authentic-Organ...oryZ1468QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The "creature" in the pictures used to be a small stingray. A good friend of our family actually made one very similar to this and said that he sent it to the Smithsonian (although I'm not sure if he actually did).

The view in the pictures is the bottom of the ray. This creature is fairly easy to make. The dead ray is cut in several areas while it is still fresh, then some pieces are folded under (or over) and some pieces are removed. It's body is then tied into position and laid in the sun to dry. The eyes of the "alien" are actually part of the gill system. The mouth is the actual mouth of the ray, which is on it's underside. The legs are made from the flipper-like protrusions that are on either side of the tail. The tail is of course, the tail of the stingray. The thing on top of the alien's head is a bone that is in the stingray's nose area.

(Briman imitates Carl from the movie SlingBlade) Poor little feller...

$1500 :O. I doubt it's a real Mermaid, but I'd love to hear from the winning bidder to say it is.

Look's a bit like a scam on my first impression... I'm pretty surprised that it went through well!

He left positive feedback too! :hehe:
I'm sure the buyer knew it was a fake, but appreciated how incredibly well-faked it was. I mean c'mon... who would drill a hole in an unknown creature/artifact/fossil that was found on the beach?!

I'll bet it's probably hanging on the wall of a seafood restaurant somewhere. It's a great investment if you ask me. I'm sure a lot of people would love to see this thing for real.

The headline might read, "Restaurant owner purchases mermaid on eBay. Plans to display it in local restaurant for all to see." What a great story! $1500 is a super price for gobs of advertising from your local and regional news outlets! Plus, you get a great "artifact" as a bonus!

lol, it's funny what'll get on eBay these days,

He should probably stop pretending they're real though. He'd make a fair bit of money for that kind of work anyways.

I believe on ebay I once saw:
The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything!!

When you opened the auction, the seller had just typed in huge letters, 42!!

Whoever bought it should watch out for anyone who is looking to steal it... Cause I'm on the loose. :P

I'm staying the hell away from this dude's beach! The locals must be pissing in the water or something...

Something smells fishy....

Well of course they're faked, but faked well.
I blogged about his sea monster a while back.

How terrified would you be if you tripped over one of those on a dark night?

Friends you are killing me.

When I hear this kind of things it bashes my brains...

Now from where did that seller got this creature?? Or did he created it in LAB.

If it is like that then why don't I leave this internet business and start creating mermaids in labs.. Or maybe I can start a factory of mermaids :) HHHAAHH.
