Rather than attacking me.tv for what it fails to accomplish or does not do, I want you to think as though you are a MySpace member or YouTube content creator, if you can handle that. The reason is simple, what does me.tv need to offer to attract a critical mass of MySpace/YouTube like people? Me.tv is constantly being upgraded and developed to suit the needs of the community populating the me.tv network. Many of the most recent changes have come from users like us.

While I know many of you want more features to help develop a monetized site, the reality is that you need hundreds of thousands of unique visits/views to make any sort of real income at all. The reason why the success of me.tv (and other .tv sites) should be important to you is because it they will give the .tv domain extension the exposure it so desperately needs at the moment (as evidenced by the recent flop of stockmarket.tv at TRAFFIC).

If you were a MySpace member, or YouTube content creator, what tools, features, etc would you like that those sites do not offer? If this thread is successful and some great ideas are posted, I am sure you will see the changes in the me.tv platform.

Um nothing is needed, you can pretty much do the same thing (I believe) with what they have there.

The ONLY difference is basically that you have your own name in the url.

So that basically leaves a small hurdle......myspace is free.

Which means that this is NOT a tool for the myspace crowd. At least not the ones without credit cards.....but that is problably a low percentage of them......oh wait a tic

It should be marketed like this (among other things)

Come get your JoeUser.me.tv site now for FREE!
If you want it to just be JoeUser.tv, you can pay for that for a nominal fee.

Look, Demand Media has to get serious trying to promote .TV

they can't

1) As SKG pointed out: use DemandMedia.com instead of DemandMedia.tv and think that is going to help out

2) Jack up prices on some premmies 24 hours before launch. Dallas.tv going from $10K to $30K while in active discussions with someone who was going to reg Dallas.tv for $10K and needed 24 hours to get things in place.

3) Require ME.TV to reg their domains thru ENOM and not do as Showbiz recommends with GeorgePickering.me.tv.

This doesn't help out .TV. Especially 2). I understand 3). I get 1). 2) bad move.

It is even harder than that.

Even for free, the tools are today worse than myspace/facebook and most importantly social networks benefit from network effects.

And everyone is already on myspace/facebook.

So right now the only angle is the vanity angle.

They need to seed the market somehow. I would focus on high schools personally...

so why doesn't someone here launch a competitor to ME.TV? it will only force them to make similar changes... win/win.

I know for a few of our domains, we'll be offering users free subdomains, but our service won't be running on ME.TV software, but on our own CMS. But I will also be hosting some sites on ME.TV to be a part of their ecosystem as well. Some business models work well on ME.TV, some require custom software and other alternatives.
