I waited 6 years for this sale. The buyers of my domain in the previous thread (Declined a € 950 offer on a € 0,99 domain) purchased the same domain name but with a different extension. After the sale, I registered the domain with other extensions, always ccTLD.

I always set the minimum offer to $849 on Sedo, just like for the other domain. They offered the lowest amount, but knowing that they are a company that has raised several rounds of investment, I rejected all offers until I accepted $9750. I was considering accepting lower offers too, but then I told myself, 'If these guys have raised millions, they might protect their digital brand identity by paying more significant amounts'.

If you're wondering how I found the domain name: I discovered it using a tool that I had built by a friend. Basically, this tool visits all the new Wikipedia pages in search of new words, to which it adds a .com and other ccTLD extensions to check if the new words have already been registered. After a few weeks, this fairly generic word came up that was available for registration. So, I registered it and waited for offers on Sedo. This tool now runs 24/7 looking for new dictionary words.

The nice thing is that this company chose a brand name that is also a generic term for something. So they couldn't even file a lawsuit because it's a modern word that has become part of everyday use, almost like a dictionary term.

I respect your patience and the guts to stay "strong" and correct the offers until you get 10x!
It was a bit of luck and a bit of timing, but it was definitely strong!

Not a lawyer, but I don't know if this counts as Domain Squatting or something in this Direction :)
I hope you don't want to promote this tool.

Actually, every Python-based web scraper can do this (dont want to say your tool isn't good).
But I'm not a dev, therefore - I step a bit back.

But definitely a nice sale ; congrats =)))

Not much, I'm from italy and would pay 40% in taxes + 15% Sedo's commission

Sure, now with chat GPT I'm able to replicate this script without my dev friend. Great times to play with programming on the fly.

Congrats! By the way, the research tool you used, is it possible to be available to the public in the future?

That's precisely what I meant with marketing the tool :)
Use ChatGPT (paid version) and access the custom GPTs, or buy a cheap Udemy course to learn the basics of Python and how to build a web scraper.

Because - nevertheless, I am happy for OP to achieve this sell, it was more or less clear that someone will ask for the "magic", which seems to be the scraper.

Thanks, thats what I thought. It looks like a customized scrapper, should built one :)

If you don't have dev expertise, I recommend using Claude 3.5 Sonnet. It's currently the best commercial model for programming. Both ChatGPT and Google's models fall short in comparison—try it and see for yourself.

Bro, congrats on your sale! Your sale made me realize that domaining is not a quick business; at least a 5-10 year holding period before some of the domains could sell at good margins to cover all the domain renewals and acquisition costs of a portfolio. May more similar sales come your way!

It takes time, but the line between a profitable wait and a wait that leads nowhere is very thin. To ensure that the wait is worthwhile, ask yourself a simple question: 'Would this domain be good for a solid and liquid business?'

years ago u could get good sellable 1word in many sellable extensions.. co io etc... even xyz.. that was say 5 to 10 years ago... today that's all over.. back then all u had to do is be on drop time on expireddomains.net that's all. my best sales were from such names.

there is risk in any biz type. even those who think 9to5 office job is risk free often pay with their health.. eyes... back ... lungs for various physical jobs..etc... the list is endless... but above all they pay with their time... and time is the most precious commodity and resource on earth.. u cannot buy it... u can only learn to spend it wisely or unwisely... the irony of course is that to learn to spend it wisely u need time to begin with... god is such a bluff.

It was definitely easier back then, and over time, domain names will become less and less significant. For instance, with advancements in AI, we might soon search through information databases rather than websites.

Times are changing for domain investors as well.

true. just wrote same elsewhere. domains time is counted. however imo it's a good 10 to 20 years away before hotel.com is worth.. well... nothing.

Truly top domains will still be useful. After all, these domains are mostly used for branding and prestige. But the real game-changer will be search without websites, so exact match domains will disappear (they're already much less common compared to 10 years ago).

well no. all domains will be worthless cause they wont be used. it will happen. because in tech nothing is forever. it's just that no one knows when. I give it min 10 years
