After my thread about how I made $9,750 selling a reg fee domain, this time I made $2,195 selling another reg-fee LLLLL.com domain that was registered 9 years ago. I listed it for sale on Afternic because they have authoritative landing pages that I really like, and I think this played a crucial role (especially regarding GoDaddy's brand authority).

I was selling this domain on the NamePros marketplace for $300 and didn't receive even a single inquiry. I had received an offer of $1,500 on Sedo in 2018 but wasn't able to accept it quickly enough. After 8 years, someone purchased it for $2,195. This goes to show that if a domain is truly valuable, you'll sell it eventually and there's no need to undersell it.

Furthermore, it makes me think that there's a huge information gap, so domainers are not able to efficiently uncover value and anticipate the end buyer. There's plenty of room for anyone entering the domaining market in any given year.

P.S: I remember finding this domain using DomainNameSoup.com. Back then I used to spend my days finding reg-fee domains, what wonderful times.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Many of these names make sense as an investor at reg fee. Few make sense at $300.

As long as you are confident in the value of the domain you own, no one can reduce the value of that domain.

I listed a domain on NP for $50 no takers at all .

The same domain sold for $4,300 at Afternic .

Exactly this. Reg fee -> $2k = 200x return (not counting renewals) while $300 -> $2k is not even 7x (again not counting renewals). For one domain it's alright but on a portfolio scale it's not sustainable. Even when I buy a domain second-hand I always try to get as close to a potential 100x return as possible. Sure, it's cool to buy a domain for 10k and sell for 20k, but how many such domains can you buy? It's a good strategy, but only when you already have a big portfolio and/or free cash. But in that case I still wouldn't buy a random $300 LLLLL for a 7x potential return.

Congrats! Glad to see Afternic's landers playing a key role in the sale.
