there's one called snews which seems interesting as well. It's not exactly a CMS but can act like one. (it's just one file.) I've heard good things about Mambo/Joomla and Drupal as well. (all free.)

Joomla and PhpNuke are good.

typo3 is very powerful but the learning curve is very steep. might take you weeks. joomla is easier to setup and use

Yep, if you have time to learn, go for Typo3 - it's what the NY Times use for their site. Amazingly enough, it's free!

If you have less time, go for joomla or e107 - they produce less spectacular results, but are very intuitive in use.
