A Good CMS for my project

basically i want a site where i can post news with an image for each piece of news with cats and enable users to submit news with pics easily aswell as it would be a public news site of course admins would have to authorize members posts b4 they become public view. I tried wordpress but its really based on a single persons blog and most CMS like phpnuke do not have a simple feature such as add image to post. It also has to be customizable.. Its simple what i want i just cant find any CMS or blogging script that can do a simple thing like easy posting for my members who sign up aswell as site staff.

Also I noticed with wordpress when i post something the entire post comes onto main page i prefer the cms to only show say teh first 500 characters with a read more link?? maybe with a mod?

WordPress really doesn't have to be a "single person's blog" like you say...people can register and contribute as well. You could manually approve accounts and allow them access to the writing section to submit content for review. I'd give WP another shot.

wordpress also does the read more thing easily, there are 2 ways, the simplest of which involves putting <!--more--> where you want the article to break.
