Like the title suggests I am in the market for a new laptop as the one I have now just isn't cutting it for me. The current one I have is an Acer Aspire 5100 but I am looking for something more versatile.

I want one that is able to play games such as F.E.A.R. but also have the capability of being a take to work laptop. I am well aware of the restrictions and capabilities of most notebooks but I know there are some really good ones out there.

The Acer is my second laptop which I have had no problems with but I was wondering if someone could suggest a notebook they love that you just couldn't go without.

I have at least $2k to spend on it and it needs to be a laptop only. Also it MUST NOT be a Dell of any type. My throat still hurts from yelling at them years ago....but on the plus side I now speak two languages. :guilty:

 - understandably so!!

I'd suggest an apple dual core. the best of both worlds. run the tiger OS with windows as secondary option. Plays all games, performs better and is overall kicking all other laptops arse. i don't have one, but i'd sure like to get one.

Check out these forums, www.anandtech.com it's a computer forum basically and that's where I got my laptop. People sell some pretty nice computer hardware/software there as well.

Funny, not really I guess but I'm also in the market for a new laptop and was considering ordering a Dell this weekend... I currently own an Inspiron 8200 and shes kinda out dated/overloaded/under powered besides that havnt had any major problems, I just need more umph.

Without going into too much detail what is your general dislike about Dell, like what type of problem did you have if you dont mind me asking.

Inspiron 6400
---------------
PROCESSOR : Intelยฎ Coreโ„ข 2 Duo T5600 (1.83GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)

OPERATING SYSTEM : Vista Home Premium

LCD DISPLAY : 15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLifeโ„ข

MEMORY : 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ

HARD DRIVE : 100GB 7200rpm SATA

OPTICAL DRIVE : 8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability

GRAPHICS CARD : 256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory Graphics

BATTERY : 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

Total Price : $1500.00 CDN ( Tax Included )

For the price and features it has it seems to be a good bang for the buck.

I owned the 8200 dell and I liked it for what it was as it did the trick but eventually the clunkiness of the 10lb notebook along with the fans always seizing and the hard drive replacement was a bit annoying. I also found out that I could not replace the ethernet port at all after it was fried and since it was no longer covered under warranty Dell could give a crap less about my concerns or problems. They basically told me I had to buy a new laptop after just under two years of on and off use.

Not to mention that they outsourced all of their support so everyone I talked to barley understood the English language and I had quite a time trying to figure out what they were saying altogether. I even had one CSR tell my that my laptop was screwed and I was solely responsible for it being screwed up and then hung up on me.

I spent hours with Dell tech support and getting no where but the pass on so much so that I was yelling at supervisors. Now I am a polite person but will only handle incompetence for a very short time especially for someone who is apparently getting paid to "assist their customers." Well after going through the hell of tech support I hung up the phone and gave up with them. I wrote to the BBB and also filed a consumer report review which obviously none were in favor of them.

Dell quit caring about their customers and their needs and could give a shit less about you no matter how much money you drop on their products. This is one company I will never do business with. I don't support their products or will ever knowingly buy anything that is made/created/sold by them period. Hence the reason for the "NO DELL" statement.

...and as you can tell by my long drawn out response this is one company I would love to see flushed down the drains and forgotten like fragglerock. [END RANT]

Shame you don't like Dell :p I just bought a Dell XPS M1210 two days ago and it's perfect for all my needs. I live in Australia, and the support here is excellent, and I am very happy with my purchase.

I recommend you look up these [as well as the M1210]
Toshiba M500
Apple MacBook Pro
Sony VAIO SZ

and some reviews:

Good luck!
