I am in need of a nice laptop cooling pad that does the job well as my Acer heats up quit often due to it's poor ventilation design. I am looking for something between $30 bucks or lower but not quite sure what quality of brand I should be looking for. If you know of a good one please let me know via this thread. Thanks, Adam.

My Cheap Quick Fix Solution

When my laptop really heats up and I cannot afford to risk an auto shutdown in the middle of my work or auction, I put my household box fan face down on a lot smaller table. Then I put my laptop on top of the fan. It becomes a a three-speed super laptop fan.

I'm sure there are laptop-sized box fans available at Rite-Aid, Save-On, Walgreens or Wal-Mart that would do the trick in a pinch.

I do something similar but use a 4 inch cookie rack and then put my floor fan next to it I'm looking more or less for something I can take to the office.

Targus Chillpad = Crap
Spent $20 at Wallyworld, glad they have a good return policy. It lowered my laptop cpu temperature by a whole 1C and my battery stayed hot as hades.

I've researched the subject quite a bit since making that mistake, and I honestly don't think any products offered will be able to make any significant temp change for the cost. My focus shifted to finding something just to get the laptop off of my lap, since the bottom seriously gets hot enough to burn.

MY SOLUTION?

x1
with holes drilled all over the top with:

+
x2
attached on the inside at the opening edge with:

to keep it semi level.

Costs a couple of bucks, allows air flow, and if too much heat still reaches your legs somehow, just throw some sheets of notebook paper in there. Get the binders with the clear plastic sleeves on the front and back if you want extra grip, or glue four erasers on top for even more crazy air flow and grip.

What do you think, should I start selling these on eBay?

Read the reviews on Amazon and elsewhere, but it seems that people either love it or hate it (I'm a lover ;) )
