Hey...

I'm looking for a directory type script that is NOT a link directory.

Example:

Say I was going to create directory of recipes for food (I'm really not).

The site will look like a link directory, like how it is broken up into categories. Chinese food, Japanese food, Italian Food, etc. And a user would click on one of those categories, and that would bring them to the name of the food.

For example, a user clicks on "Chinese Food" and then Won-Ton Soup, Lo Mein, and Boneless Spare Rips show on the next page. After clicking on "Won-Ton Soup," the recipe for it will show on the next page.

Does anyone know of a script like this (preferably php and/or free)? If you don't, then PLEASE someone point me in the right direction to a free script or a VERY cheap script.

This is pretty much EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Except in a wayy cheaper version:

http://www.houstonpages.us/
http://www.coachellachamber.com/directory

Those site are using "Business Directory Pro" --> http://www.cavescripts.com/business_directory_pro.php

Can anyone help me out?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Take article managementscripts or reviews scripts and just modify it a bit. :D

Done.

I thought of that... Like WordPress or something, but it would be a bit difficult to modify it...

you may want to try the recipe portal script:
http://www.softbizscripts.com/recip...pt-features.php

This could work, is there a free version? Or does anyone have resell rights to that script?

I dont know of any free version, usually it comes as a turnkey script but mostly configurable to whatever database directory you want it to be.

Best of the best.

microdude431, I'd recommend you to read the original question before posting a comment. The asker has specifically mentioned in the first line of his post that he is interested in an article directory script and not a link directory script. so, phplinkdirectory is of no use to him.

I'd still recommend PHPKB Article Directory Script since I'm using it and there is no other script in the market that even stands close to it.

try this http://www.articlescript.org , very cheap. all you need is design the template. it can be used as article directory or can be a knowledge base like wiki.- very cheap price at 10$

As eli03 has said articlescript.org is good for the money. But, Softbiz Recipes Script is likely the best based on your needs and the cost. A good "free" business directory is going to tough to find, but if you do find one I would like to know about it. ;)

If you do decide to spend a few bucks:

The Business directory I would suggest looking into http://www.phpmydirectory.com/ Plenty of upgrades and support.

If it's an article directory script, take a look at www.Vezine.com (This is the best on the market :imho: ) PHP, MySQL DB, Template based, News Letter, RSS, SEO URL's ect...

This Vezine one is costly and comes in yearly licenses only. :imho: If a life time license is to be purchased, you need to pay 160 bucks :$: while PHPKB has all the features with a much more professional layout, nice look and feel, comes at 135 and that is also a one time fee with free updates. Recently i saw on thier website http://www.knowledgebase-script.com that they are going to relaese version 2 in july with multi-lingual interface plus 2 new skins.

Your right about the cost of Vezine, but it is only $30 a year to renew. PHPKB is a nice looking script and I'll likely give it a try, but I did not see a newsletter function. Did I miss that? The newsletter can really help you make $$$ from "ezine" and business directory type sites. Also, Vezine has a built in image function that I did not see on PHPKB.

Your kidding right???

Another nice script is http://www.interspire.com/articlelive/, but
it does not have a newsletter either.

No, I'm not kidding. We have implemented PHPKB on our company's portal after research of several article management systems available in market these days and no one was upto the standards of PHPKB. :imho: They have not just kept in mind the user friendliness of the system but made sure that it is most stable also. We have tested this system with 2000 articles published by our employees on the very first day and it was like a breeze. Article management was never so easy like phpkb has made it. We evaluated options like activekb, helpworkspro, articlelive but the features and stability of phpkb makes it stand ahead of the crowd.

Yes, regarding newsletter, i agree with you that phpkb misses this feature but since this feature was not included in our research sheet so we didn't botherd about it.

Really, can I get a look at them? I would love to see examples of what has and can be done with the script. The demo is a bit lacking in the design department.:imho: Your welcome to Post or PM if you wish.

I really like that PHPKB allows for "File Attachments with Articles". Does PHPKB allow for multiple page articles?

BTW- Did you see that they are raising the price to $250 in july?
Ver. 2 will be out in July & priced $250

Hello Robert,

We have installed it on the company's intranet portal for our call centre staff to assist our customers calling for support. We have setup all the knowledge base questions for the staff to provide quick answers to the customers. So, I am not allowed to post the URL of phpkb installed on company's intranet. I am sure you will understand.

Yes, I have also noticed that version 2 will be priced at $250 however making such a system skinny with multi-language support might not have been easy and maybe they would like to cover the development expenses from the sales. BTW, I have never came across any knowledge base system which is multi-lingual? Have you?

Yes, I understand.;) Your correct about "multi-lingual", that is a nice touch.

That is a very nice script at a great price. I'm going to have to give it a try.

I already implemented the script here: Web Hosting Directory and you can just easily modify the templates. :)

I think you can also incorporate their script on mambo/joomla cms..
