Time for my Rant .... Well sort of ~

I look through the appraisals and sales forums And See all these Wasted Registrations of the Dot Info's - My sense of humor kicks in a few seconds after my blood pressure goes through the roof -

Seeing they are/were FREE , I can see grabbing a couple just for a test here and there to see if they'll work out - and I can see grabbing some single dictionary words that may not have much search value in hope of them being worthwhile. But gggeeeeeeeezzzzzzzz ............. Over half of what I see is absolutely worthless - This is a great opportunity for Veterans as well as Newbies of the Domain World .....

Some ideas for you if you have any left :

I "Love" Building list as some of you know .... and I started running all the postal listed Cities and Town names ..... Guess What ? - There's tons of them left !!! Not the main Metro Areas of course .... But I had to stop running the list - They were too big (Not enough Patience)

~Try your City / Town / Township / County etc .... - Fits great with the Ext !

~Try for your First / Last or FULL NAME ! - Most of you don't have one of those do you ?

~Try your User name here (If available) and forward it to your referral link (Still better than wasting them for the fun of it !)

~Try some deleted/expired list for backlinks etc .... (I picked up a previously owned info and am getting 5-10 uniques a day from it already)

A lot of people are thinking this Giveaway is funny ... I can assure you that anyone who's been buying .Info's for the past couple of years See's nothing funny about it ! - It's probably too late - But Everyone should take it a bit more serious .....

Just my little rant ...... Much better now :p

I took the oppurtunity to reg about 10 domains I actually liked, about about 10 for real dev, and then 4-5 useless ones for the hell of it :)

I mainly got them to make "mini-sites" and while the value may be low I've already started building sites that provide enjoyment to me at least :)

Hey - you're at least using them Dark .... Most of the one's I've Seen are ending up parked WITH No parking Value whatsoever .... :p

I tried to reg all the cities in my area and I got a few for possible expansions of my current websites. I think something like that is the way to go if you cant find some good generic one or two worders with search results.

i agree lots of them are worthless

Great suggestions, all4cost! I can't say I'm surprised that a lot of crappy names were registered. Are you?

Just one note -- year .info's, especially year ranges, aren't necessarily the best way to use your free .info's (ie- 1900-2000.info, the 21st century info site!)...

It's like a land Rush (Really is) But the majority of people ran out in the swamp or the desert to place their claims ...... ???

lol, good analogy all4cost,

Well when the land is free it is suprising what people will do ;)

There's always another way to look at it ... Back before the Double whammy Hurricanes (Bertha / Fran) here in NC - My former Employer bought some Marshland on the beach for +/- 500$ an Acre (I Figured a Write off) - The hurricanes Filled his "Marsh" with sand .... (Lucky B-st-rd) Now there's 6 or 7 Nantucket Style Homes there ....

Las Vegas was an Empty desert at one time ..............

But I don't think that applies here ..... lol -

I've been searching for names w/ good search term stats. There are still some decent ones out there, if that is your cup of tea. Kind of cumbersome for my taste, but if these are terms that people are typing in, who am I to knock it. Nothing great, most in the 10M-30M OV search range.
Just regged:

BarbequeRecipes.info (and derivations).
DanceCostumes.info
USAirline.info

Also there seems to be some availabilities w/ seasonal and time sensitive names.

Two that I regged:
2005Holidays.info
SuperBowlParty.info (no numbers now, but come Jan/Feb...!) :D

Great suggestions, all4cost. I was able to run a list of all the cities in my county and came up with a couple good ones that I was surpised to see still available. Great names for developing local portal sites! :)

Yep, I really think that this is a good chance to pick up some decent Dev names for "back-burner" projects.

This is a gas! It's party time for domainers. This is a very unique event, and I'm really glad people are posting some of their regs. Shows what a diverse group of thinking and approaches that members of the community have.

I wonder if this is creating some amount of overflow biz for the other registries? I don't know about y'all, but there have been a couple of instances of picking up a name in another ext that was unavail in info. I picked up the name of a neighboring town where my business is at w/ .us ext and also picked up a couple of .biz names that are excellent for my functional art business, as a result of stepping up my searching due to the info offer.

I think this has been alot of fun! I used it as an opportunity to get people who don't normally reg names, to get into the domain frenzy... I usually like to stick to word frequency lists to see if I can find an unregistered one word dot com that might be of value. Applying frequency lists to dot infos revealed many more possibilities.

Some that I picked up include:
1930s.info
causes.info
spent.info
assumptions.info
involvement.info
opponents.info
mechanisms.info
