Last year .info was offered for free and everyone was grabbing them up like. Then they would list them here in NP for appraisals and for ridiculous sales amounts. It appears that .BE has done the same thing as info did last year and many of you are rushing to grab these prized domains, and filling the forum up with please appraise this.be and that .be I have even seen some in the for sale forum.

I will appraise all free .be names right now Reg Fee unless you have extended registration for 10 years. Oh and if your looking to sell them price them accordingly Reg Fee because i bet that 99.9% of the ones people are grabbing at this free offer period will not be renewed next year, Concentrate on developing the names you have already paid for so you can see a higher return on your investments.

As John Stostle would say "Give me a break" Free domains are just that Free NOT worth the time you have spent to register them.

I dont even think belgians use the .be what makes you think anyone elsewhere will?

:yell: well of course they dont!! it's a very young extension and it's pretty obvious that it'll take time for local belgian people to get ideas on how they can use their extension to their advantage....

Plus dont forget, .be is a pretty short extension, nlike .info which is ppretty long ... 4 chars is long for an extension. This might work in favor of .be in the years to come..... see what's happening to .in

I've registered 8 .be's with the intention of putting up a site on each and every one of them.

I rely on a friend for webhosting (he hosts me for free, and in turn I link to his webhost business) but this week I'm arranging my own so I don't have to get him to set up nameservers and what not.

I'll see in 9 or so months time what sort of traffic I'm getting and if it's worthwhile I'll keep them or if it's not performing I may let them drop.

Quick facts

A few things to take into consideration:

I believe it's always useful to get to know the country when you are after a TLD.
As I have said elsewhere, I believe the .be market is actually more mature than many other TLDs.

I would even dare say .be is more mature than .ca for instance.
  1. There are nearly as many be. domains as .ca domains. Still, Canada has 3 times more inhabitants than Belgium.
  2. The TLD is recognized and well-accepted within Belgium.
  3. There are no restrictions to the ownership of .be unlike countries like France.
  4. You can register .be for 12 euros, possibly less.
  5. Dutch and French are the main languages.
  6. German is spoken by less than 1% of the population.
  7. English is widely understood. After all Brussels is the capital of Europe.
There is also a sizeable expat community.
  8. Internet penetration rates are close to the levels of Northern Europe. Most people connect to the Internet via broadband (DSL or cable).
But it is ccTLD. As such it has limited value outside the country IMHO.
So choose your names accordingly. Try to target the Belgian market and develop.
To sum up Belgium is a small country but it's still a market of 10 mio inhabitants.
