I always make a counteroffer.. depending on the domain. In this case I'd say 3x or 4x more. From experience, I always managed to get more from what has been offered initially.

lol...Why not counter? I mean the first offer was $50.... maybe you can squeeze alot more... the fact that he made an offer already shows "interest" So now it's just a matter of finding out HOW interested he/she might be :)

They could just be "fishing" to see if you let it got for a lot less than they willing to pay.

Worst case you lose the deal......Im sure losing $50 won't break the bank ;)

I say it's worth more than $50.
I would counter with minimum mid $xxx (if you're feeling generous), but that's just me.

Cool thanks. I wonder though. I get offers like this all the time. Anyone have any success with turning a lowball offer into a first bid on an auction?

Basically telling the offerer that the domain is available for auction and they merely need to place their bid of a minimum of $69-$100.

Also...if I do accept tiny offers like this which I have never done. How does one go about getting payment safely? I doubt escrow.com even allows such low an amount or do they?

Only problem is paying for an auction costs money. Best situation is have an offerer make an offer on a sedo listing then push to auction which is free at sedo.

But even then it's a hassle. I didn't know that with sedo you have to get an offer THEN you COUNTER and THEN you can push to auction. Why is it like this? I always thought one offer was enough to push to auction?

I've never used 4.cn so no idea there.

I'd recommend trying to close the deal without an auction.... good chance of scaring away the buyer with that (unless it's a domainer, they probably have no idea how it works, and wouldn't care to mess with figuring it out unless they really, really want it). Just counter with whatever it is you want for it ( I'd suggest any of these, depending on your financial situation, etc: $300, $500, $750, $1500 ) and see what they say.

Wow! So you are talking about how 84 is viewed in the West not the eastern Chinese domain market. Pretty cool thanks.

I'd counter with $300, if he/she makes a better offer I'll accept it.
BTW: your website doesn't work.

Hard to say the buyer's intent without knowing more. But yes, as I understand it (and I am a chip n00b for sure), 84 sounds the same as or similar to "forever prosperous". There are certainly multiple positive aspects about this domain to consider before selling for fifty bucks.

My advice to you is don't get greedy for a domain that has no or little value unless you are selling lots of domains every week then you can do whatever :glasses:

Of course if there is value I don't see then ignore me and go with your gut.

Little to no value to you perhaps, but this domain is without a doubt worth more than $50 to someone. Is the person making the offer that someone? Maybe, maybe not.... but countering a $50 offer for a short, meaningful .com is never being greedy.

I don't know about you, but I don't register domains with the hope of flipping them for just $50. That's a good way to run yourself out of business pretty quick if you ask me, unless your success rate is, say, 50-100%.

What if I made you an offer for lets say $250.... Not a FIRM offer, just an inquisitive offer....

So now you can go back to your client and say that you have a "potential" offer of $250 on the table at the moment, it's not confirmed but would he/she be willing to beat that offer?

Lol... :P

I'm going to counter with a " I currently have offers substantially higher than $50. None that inspire me to sell. I am rich so I can afford to wait , but I'm open to selling at RIGHT PRICE. You are welcome to resubmit a better offer as $50 is just too low to cover my costs. I'm a business not a charity. There are domains of less quality within your price range. Please try your like with those. You've made the right choice in reaching out to me because you know this domain is valuable. Your next offer should reflect this. But do hurry as I'm close to accepting an offer and this particular domain is getting offers daily. So for you tomorrow might be too late! Act now. Thank you and good luck!"

How's that ? Too much?lol I don't like the idea if giving out prices as who knows how deep any offerer's pockets are.

But I suspect this reply will scare them away? But is a bad thing?
