Hi

I have some important questions before i feel secure enough to set the first steps into domaining. Hope you guys can help me + the other who read the post.

Domain locking: Is it adviced to choose this or are there many disadvantages? I want to be sure a domain i register, is and stays mine but does this gives problem when transferring?

Hide Whois info: Do you do this and why? Why is hiding your info important and can domaininterested people stil contact you?

Choosing a registrar: I'll be looking for .com, .org and .net mostly, but also some .be, .nl and .eu.
- Is it better for me to choose a 'local' (Belgium or Holland) registrar or do the more popular ones (GD, Moniker, ...) have big advantages when it comes to easyness and transferring domains?
- As a domainer, is it prefferable to have accounts at several registrars or all at one? Seems easier to have them all at one big registrar but i could be wrong.

Thx for the advice!
Mc

domain locking stops your domain from being transferred to another registrar.

you hide info from spammers/scammers that's why some people do this because fed up from spam but on the other hand, if you're a domainer if you do this how can you be contacted fast, do you want your email filtered first by whois privacy before it gets to you?

you can also register domains on http://www.namepros.com/domainreg.php
by using np$ or go with godaddy.com, moniker.com, idotz.net or dynadot.com

for me scatter it so you still don't know what will happen to these registrars.

Thx for the quick response.

So locking your domain is a 'must'. Then you just manually unlock it before transferring it?

Is it easy to transfer domains between 2 different registrars or are there advantages of having the same registrar as the person to transfer too?

when you transfer it to another person and you want to change registrar you need to unlock it, but in godaddy you can change your whois information even if it's locked.

yes it's much faster and convenient for both: seller and buyer that the buyer or future domain owner has account on same registrar/reseller as the seller because most registrar supports free push or free account changes.

so you will see here on the rules when selling it's important to mention the registrar and expiry date so the buyer knows where to create account just in case he wins the domain auctions or he's interested in buying the domain.

Is safety still a big issue, when you lock the domain?
I read everywhere moniker's the safest and some people don't trust some other companies...
