Buying domain on Sedo with private Whois?

Hi,

I've never bought on sedo before, or anything other than directly from a registrar.

I want to buy a domain, and on this domain have private whois info. (So - at no time do my details go on the domain, even if at first and then later make it private, because due to whois history lookup, this would defeat the purpose for having private registration in the first place).

Is it somehow possible to do it?

What happens (whois-wise), when you purchase a domain at sedo? Does it automatically place your sedo account's contact/billing address details into the whois upon transfer, or can you completely control what goes into the whois for the initial domain ownership (and whois....) transfer?

If it's hard to do what I want without creating a sedo account with fake details or something - another option could be.....I know a registrar with whom I have a good registrar-client relationship, and with whom I have a number of private whois domains already. Could another option be to organise it with them? (though, would they have to do the bidding themselves on sedo? That'd be a mess, due to the liability issue and simple unpredictability of whether the negotiations go successfully anyway...but it's an avenue, right? I just hope it can be simpler and controlled all from my end rather than this option...)

Ahhhhhhhh WAIT.....Wait....and do be patient please with my noobiness - it doesn't actually work like that, does it...the whois registering all takes place with your destination registrar, right? (meaning, you just have to find a registrar who can offer private whois, and that's how you do it?)

Thanks for helping out a newbie!

Hello,
in order to transfer domain you must turn the privacy Off.

Sedo has accounts at most of the major registrars.

In many of my transactions through Sedo, the domain is pushed to their account at the same registrar that the domain is at and they wait until funds are received from the buyer, before completing the swap. With that said however, there were some instances, they just requested the auth code from the seller and provided that to the buyer through their interface.

If you are transferring away from a registrar like GoDaddy, they require the Domainsbyproxy service removed before they release it.

Not all registrars have that rule though. I have transferred away from some with whois privacy still enabled.

If the domain has privacy the seller likely already verified ownership via nameservers or screenshot.

Thread is old but no one answered the question asked by OP.

After transfer domain will have details that you entered in your domain registrar account.

Yes.

As people have said, Sedo will usually "push" a domain to an account at the same registrar, but transfer is also possible.

When receiving a push usually there is no way to put privacy on till you have the domain in your account (unless registrar lets you have privacy on everything by default - some do - but check carefully). But after getting the domain, seconds later you can enable privacy.

But many registrars offer "profiles" meaning you can have multiple registrant profiles in your account - makes sense if you manage other people's websites and domains. So in effect you can have a domain push that shows someone else's details in the whois for a few seconds before enabling privacy.

If you get the name as a transfer rather than a push, most registrars will let you enable privacy when you pay to initiate the transfer so the whois is never public.

But never ever assume that privacy at Moniker is working correctly. And most privacy services can just be removed if there are serious law issues. And you should really double check them yourself to make sure privacy gets enabled.

Sedo sometimes fails to give you the domain name you won, if seller doesn't cooperate.

This happened with me too, I won a lll.net, the price was a little less than normal, thats why seller didn't respond...

I made payment, provided information everything as they were required..

After passing the allowed time, I ask Sedo agent to tell me what I should do, they told that you can take legal action, you can get contact details of seller, but we can't do anything more, we would take our action if needed.
