Hi everyone,
I am curious - do you turn-off domain locking and auto-renew? (Unless it is a super-premium domain such as a single word dictionary domain name, then, perhaps, it will be relevant imo).

I think Godaddy sending more than enough alerts before the domain expiring, so auto-renew is not really needed, don't you think?
If you are keeping locking and/or auto-renew, please share your reasons..

Thanks!

I turn off auto-renew everywhere, because I don't want any surprise charges. If it's a name I want to keep I just renew or reg for 3-5 years.

As far as locking, that is done as a security measure.

always keep your domains locked, until you are about to transfer them

Auto-renew can fail if there is an issue with the credit card, so I agree it's best to renew for a few years in advance.
Locking is normally always on, but since 2006 you need an EPP code to transfer.
Of course you need to pick a registrar that is safe, and keep your mail secure.

I'm with Icedude on this one, I keep all auto-renew options turned off and let Godaddy notify me of any charges that I can expect.

OP you're right about Godaddy, they'll notify you about everything in time make decisions on what to with your domains.
