worth (much more than) their weight in gold!

(er ... how much does an LLLL.com "weigh" anyway?
Would have to check with npcomplete or another physics guru, but might actually calculate a mass-energy equivalent for about 18 bits of information content ...!)

Seriously, all LLLL.com are "brandable" to some degree - that is, they are easy to remember after some amount of repetitive exposure. Some much more so than others of course - the ones that are at least quasi-pronounceable, or have obvious familiar acronyms, or even just some esthetic quality.

IMO, seems like the premium CVCV and VCVC combos currently seeing $1000++ reseller prices could keep rising up to mid $xxxx over the next year based on potential end-user sales in the high $xxxx range. But "reseller quick sale" price may have a hard time seeing more than $3000 unless there are quite a few more $10,000 end user sales - and this year may not be the best time to expect very much of that. (And I think BuyDomains has a pool of nice CVCV offered for closer to $5,000 anyway - though should check to confirm their current prices.)

Longer term the top tier of CVCV and VCVC "web 2.0" brandables seem like big winners, maybe starting to really shine more about 2 years out, towards the end of 2009. But they may be quite a bit less liquid than the low end in the meantime, which probably has a much larger pool of low-budget speculators (and end users) to trade with.

Just my best guess though - I don't pay much attention to the high-fliers - too rich for my blood right now, and (unfortunately for me) likely to remain that way! If you've got some nice ones - hold onto them, and don't sell them cheap (unless you've got another good angle for investing the proceeds from a quick sale).

it was a huge coincidence...

after my post i read an article talking about "blind optimism" written by a psychoanalyst that is a economic psychology professor; she talks about the stock market but industry's bubble is cited... i will translate from portuguese the best parts of the interview (sorry if i made any mistakes)

she says the investors due to "optimism excess" minimize the risks and they should "meet loss" to not go crazy

Q: how would Freud explain market crisis?
A: excessive optimism makes people forget market is cyclic... when everything is fine it is hard to keep in mind there are loss risks because our memory isnt perfect; you dont remember anything went wrong or you blame other people and it hates frustration either. we just think what we can accept (my emphasys) and thats why we think everything will work perfectly

Q: why there are people who tolerate more loss than others?
A: because there are people have more knowlegde and tolerate frustration more, then they are not so naive and know how to play the game; she says a few people know how much the have earned so they can lose some ammount

Q: do investors behave as if they were only one?
A: sometimes, first investors study possibilities and think themselves... others decide to do the same thing but they dont know the whole thought; it is like a wireless phone and it happened in the internet bubble. first investors thought about buying a search company and the last ones came and thought "if it ends in dot com, i will buy it/them"

Q: why do the economists always make mistakes when predicting the future?
A: nobody is a fortuneteller tosay what will happen... if you are desperate you believe in anything. under torture statistics confesses anything (it was her answer)

as i told in the beginning she talks about the stock market
i just put this interesting interview here to explain better my vote, i also think it is a good read even translated by me though

i am not saying at all LLLL will ruin or lose value (i really believe in them and i have many of them) or there will be a bubble again... nobody knows even if will or when will be, but there are some people here that came from stock market know markets are cyclic (as she also stated) but industry is something different from the others, industry is a market as well though

sorry for this big post :)

~~** Mission Impossible **~~

The question was, how much will qpbq.com, jqyu.com or dkrj.com be worth in a year? Ie, LLLL that are, or close to impossible to remember or pronounce. I am the "pessimist". I believe even less than 50.
How can one letter mean that much. It will be 26 times easier to find a brandable LLLLL.com name. There are more variations with five than four.

There are five letters in the name of Elvis. Five letters just has to be the perfect length. :) If there would only be 4, what would it be?
(Congrats though, to the owner of Lvis.com .. :D )

anything's possible, some things quite a bit more so than others. Just working on a hunch on this one - and even less than 2 months ago my prediction was 50/50 chance of $40 minimum developing by the end of 2008, supporting a $20 minimum "no brainer buy" by April 1st. Well - hmmm ... So my predictions to date have been pretty off!

Taking new data into account (market activity since January, and the number of new buyers in the market) along with more study of LLL.com + CCC.com + LLLL.net ... and I still really have no idea! But will be least surprised by a path leading to $250 minimum by Junuary 2009. Next most likely outcome IMO is closer to $150 rather than above $500, but ... anything's possible!

Following up on Bricio's post - I'm reading a great book right now titled "Devil Take the Hindmost - A History of Financial Speculation" by Edward Chancelor. Highly recommended for anyone fond of discussing bubbles and tulip mania, etc ....

I called the psychic friends hotline and they insisted that in 2009 the very worst llll's will go for exactly $98.71, give or take roughly $100.

They also said that I'll win the 09 WSOP and buy a green Lamborginni, at which point Angelina Jolie will leave Brad Pitt for me B-)

edit: Updated for January 2009

I'm expecting a minimum wholesale of $100 for LLLL.coms come Jan 2009, with triple premiums fetching $300+ and quad premiums fetching $1500+. In short, I expect the gap to widen between anti-premiums and higher quality LLLL.coms. I also expect the gap to become smaller and smaller between higher quality LLLL.coms (CVCV,VCVC, pronounceables, quad premiums) and lower quality LLL.coms.

As someone invested about equally in LLL.coms and LLLL.coms, I'd like to think I have no bias here :hehe:

It will be interesting to see what happens when the large portfolios come up for renewal in Oct. I expect a gradual rise in prices through the summer with a market correction in the Fall when the over invested try to dump 10-20% of their portfolios to cover renewal costs.

I am just hoping that as I invested while they were still reg fee and not buying into the market now that my margin will be forever higher. :)
