COUNTDOWN COMPLETE!

NO MORE 4 LETTER DOMAIN AVAILABLE TO REGISTER!
_______________________________________________________________

Since early 2005, I have been investing/trading with 4 letter domain names. I started this thread due to the large variation in opinions on how many four letter domains there are available. When I started, I heard a range on viewpoints ranging from 200,000 down to nothing. What I learned that most people did not know how many were available.

Sources of Error for the estimates in number of available 4 letter domains include:

Traffic Testers: These are people who buy thousands of domains at a time to see if the domains are being visited and only keep the small percentage of domains that have regular visitors and cancel their orders for the domains that don't have a regular flow of visitors.

Inefficient ways of making estimates: There are over 450 thousand possible 4-Letter domains. There are short cuts that people can take in estimating the number that been registered that don't include all domains. One short cut that is often taken is for somebody to search through a list of previously available 4 letter names that they purchased (or got for free) and assume that all the names that are not on that list are registered.

People quoting old information:The variation in the number available changes all the time. Estimates that are months old are very different than up to date estimates.

People manipulating information for a sale:It definately is true that incorrect information on the available number of 4-letter domains can intensionally be manipulated to sell 4-letter domains at a higher price. Typically the lack of supply tends to motivate people to pay higher prices.

As a 4-letter domain trader, I believe that the information of how many 4-letter domains there are is extremely valuable for two main reasons. Firstly, my pricing of my names is subject to the amount of work it requires for customer to find for similar name. Secondly, if I want to increase my stock of 4-letter names than the information of how many there are at reg fee prices is essential.

I decided to update this thread when the number of available 4-letter domains dropped to the following levels:
22% Remaining - 25th January 2006
19% Remaining - 31st March 2006
16% Remaining - 29th June 2006
13% Remaining - 1st August 2006
10% Remaining - 15th February 2007 (crossed without traffic testing early April)
9% Remaining - 26th February 2007 (crossed without traffic testing early May)
8% Remaining - 2nd March 2007 (crossed without traffic testing in June)
7% Remaining - 21st March 2007 (crossed without traffic testing early July)
6% Remaining - 3rd July 2007(crossed without traffic testing some time in July)
5% Remaining - 1st August 2007(crossed without traffic testing August 11)
4% Remaining - 14th August 2007(crossed late August)
3% Remaining - 15th September 2007(crossed In September)
2% Remaining - 14th October 2007
1% Remaining - 31st October 2007
0% Remaining - 2nd November - COUNTDOWN COMPLETE!

Although, the number of available domains does sometime rise straight after it drops due to traffic testing and people dropping their domains, I don't consider it worth mentioning unless the rise is as significant as a 3% rise in the number of available domains.

Types of Four Letter Domains that have run out include:
- ALL OF THEM!

Since I started this thread important event about four letter domains that are worth mentioning happenned:

1: Late March/Early April 2006 there was a significant shift in the market for brandable (fake words) 4-letter domains and they started selling at significantly higher prices and the market for the names has been a lot more active ever since.

2: In July 2006, a namepros member 3par launched DYYO.com as a site committed to educating people about 4 letter domains. This is an excellent resource for those who are interested in 4 letter domain names.

3: In early February 2007. All the 4 letter domains starting with the letter A ran out.

4: wasistdas won QQNQ.COM, PCZV.COM & IQKE.COM for the competition for predicting when the 4 Letter domains would run out

Initial Post
Less than 23% of the 4 letter domain names are unregistered. I thought I'd try to keep this thread updated every time I discover another 1% reduction. I am now routinely checking the percentage of unregisted 4 letter domains.

Nice! are any of these still left? I want to be a share holder ;)

If not than maybe N---N.com :hehe:

~MG

All of both L--L.coms and N--N.coms have been registered for a while now.

Sometimes you can find an available L--L.com to register, if you know where to look, N--N.coms are almost never available to register though.

Also, you can only have two dash's/hyphens in a row (--) so no L---L.com :(

IT has gone somewhat crazy but according the Reece's last scan there is less then 6600 LLLL.coms left. With the way they have been going lately I think they will be completely bought out within the next 7 days.

I read something here about a 4 letter investors group? Instead I think we need more 4 letter related websites and blogs to help educate the public. I know that I bought over a 100 domains before I even learned what terms like VCVC and CCCN even meant! I'm still constantly searching for advice, guides, discussions, prices, etc., to not only educate myself, but others. If you know of any good 4 letter info or websites please send them to me at [email protected] because I am trying to make a 4 letter directory for buyers and sellers. Thanks

hmmm... why does it sounds interesting to me??? :hehe:

talking seriously... ive got a question: it is a cartel, it is illegal, wouldnt it have serious consequences for those that would be in this group?

Yes it is called Collusion. Collusion is illegal in the United States, Canada and most of the EU due to antitrust law (with very rare exception i.e MLBaseball) Would never happen. The only way to do it legally would be via something like the Domain Stock Market....where set values of different charactors can be easily compared and priced, and this would be for the buyers benefit. Remember folks, there is no need for banding together...the beauty of 4L.coms is that they are making any more!!

thanks for the clarification MrSpartan... here in brazil the law is very similar to what you stated regarding usa, canada and europe

I know there DO have many end-users who need LLLL.coms. I will never sell my LLLL.coms to them at a price below $300 and I think I would never sell my LLLL.coms to domainers at a price below $100.

Just by reading the discussion about banding it is obvious that it doesn't sound right. I'm a little surprise when few NPers seems think it was a good idea.

LLLL.com will rise in value without doing a such banding. The banding that for sure I will never join.

"Banding": "Narrowing of the pulmonary artery with a band to reduce blood flow to the lungs."
- Source, Google Define: ;D

Okay, maybe that's not right... ;)

xman. The point is if you dont join we will just buy all your names. You may say that we wont because they wont be at resellers prices, in which case you case you are essentially joining anyway.

what is being referred to here is a cartel which works up to a point in the supply of oil but is unlikely to function particularly well re LLLL domains given the large market of suppliers. What may happen in the year after the clear-out is for some consolidation in the market as larger operations perceive LLLL as son of LLL coming more and more into play. How this may work is for them eg to first buy anything under $15 and then push upwards in $5 tranches. Those who have a healthy portfolio will find themselves worth a few? thousand dollars richer in 3 years time. Regging the last 7k names is now the equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel, but must point out that those names as of now are still worth <$10 so domainers cannot expect an immediate flip, but the risk percentage is going down relentlessly.

I've had so much to drink that I don't care. I'm hoping my 20 LLLL.coms become valuable. I have many very decent pronouncables, and acouple that have good letters. I need money, so I hope it comes soon.

clowesy thanks for the offer but my 200+ holding aren't for sale. I spent so much time especially half of my holdings were bought from the auctions. I started collecting them early this year and they are not going anywhere anytime soon. When I targeted the LLLL niche my first thought was to hold it in a few years. I'm not saying that I don't want the LLLL.com to raise in value because. And my holdings won't be sold to the reseller anyway.

X, I appreciate that, and that was the basis of my point. You stated that you WOULD NOT join our LLLL.com cartel. What I was saying is that it doesnt matter, because if you are not going to sell to the reseller market, then it would matter to us (no offence intended).

Good Luck
