3Par posted the May LLLL reg stats and graph to DYYO a couple days ago. He usually posts it here too, but I guess not this month. So I'll take the honor.
Looking at DYYO now, I see that availability has dropped even further to 31,583 (though this # includes traffic testing).3par said:Total 4 letter domain registration in May is 6528. The domains dropped are 2733. The available number decreases by 3795 to a total of 37445.
Currently almost every domain contains JQVXYZ. It seems that people think KUW are the second tier letters.
You can get the current stat of available 4 letter domain names by clicking browse. But keep in mind that at least five big registrars are constantly testing four letter donain traffic, this number showed by browse can be signnificantly lower than real registration. At one time, we observed that almost all domains started with 'A/B/C/D' are all registered.
This big fluctration is the reason we publish the registration/remaining trend five or six days after. It also accounts for the big number of daily drop domains on our site. And some names can show up on the list again and again, as they are tested and deleted by those registrars many times.
