so I have a tiny dilema.. I know they all go backorder on istanco or others when they are dropped.. I think its like 30eur there or something.. so its not like you can just go ahead and reg LL.rs domains all day long for regfee.. it hasn't been the case for aorund 1 year I think..... plus LL always has some uses and sale potential... in most extensions.. and imo .rs is one of the better ones..

so.. wanted to get some input from you about which of mine may be worth keeping or dropping.. cause I own around 20.. and I don't want to invest in renewing them all.

how about you? are you dropping your LL.rs domains this year? what are you keeping and what are you dropping.. hey! maybe we can do a...........swap! how about that.

let's hear some comments.. 2 brains is better than one.. are you seeing any good abbreviations and potential on my list? show yours!

cheers

p.s. to keep this ontopic for intrested folk, please do not post anything other thna LL.rs domains. thanks!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
(What I am going to say is valid for other ccTLDs)

I have sold a good number LL.ctld domains and I like them. However, I always focus on the local end users. LL and LLL are popular for corporate acronyms.
So I take into consideration the local language(s) + letter frequency. Even in languages that use the Latin alphabets, some letters are not used except in loanwords/foreign words. For example w is common in Polish or Dutch, but not used much at all in Czech or French. It matters if you are going to register short domains.

In Serbia, they use both the Cyrillic and the Latin alphabets. I don't think Q is part of their alphabet, nor is W or X. So I think some of your names are hard to use.
There is always the possibility that somebody will make up something for example based on English words, or that a foreign company would want it.
rw.rs could stand for remote work, Roger & Walters or something else.

I don't see much value in number domains, at least outside Asia.

I am not very familiar with the local market, but I don't think .rs is super-strong and has a thriving aftermarket. I think I would go for generic keywords instead.

good points Kate. sometimes the obvious escapes us easiest.
I'll further this by giving another case example which I've personally experienced.. such that a guy from serbia (.rs) keeps bugging me to sell him one of my LL.rs domains because they simply represent the initials of his name.. so definitely a perfect domain and abbreviation if you want a nice 2L abbrev for your first/last name! and then a stamp of yuour country as its extension.... @LL.rs is just great imo!

so that's another example of opportunity.

as for strength of .rs versus others.. well... I'd probably have to agree with you that it's not the best out there.. but I think we both also agree there are tons of others which are worse (think maybe some african places etc). plus, what guides me also in cctld is the renewal cost.. this one is under $20.

all in all.. I only invest in 3 cctlds.. .co .al and .rs
.co is a class apart. so I don't mind a few good regular one worders there.. plus short things like LLL... .al I do only LL.. and same for .rs

thats it for me... but.. .I am sure there are many options when comes to cctlds

I believe in hacks too.. but good hacks are hard to get and cost a lot. (think lawye.rs, ca.rs, playe.rs etc...)... and bad ones, well, you're better off not hsving them at all than having them... not everything is good just because it fits a hack.. obviously...

thanks for the input

any serbian speakers with more insight perhaps?

cheers

I think I received one $200 offer on one of my ll.rs from someone from Estonia and I used to own 23 names, let them expire, but still restorable, not decided yet what to do.

I like .al, but i dont know much about .rs.. I think both of these could be good but in the future.. I think if you let them drop they would get re-registered. Might be 10 or twenty years before they have good value. Hard to say. Those NN ones seem more for asian market. I really hope to hang on to the LL that i have. They are affordable.

The ngTLDs dont help either in my opinion.

yes I think .rs is about $16 to renew.. .al is probablt $10.. so you are right.. its more affordable.
I persoanlyl prefer .al as well. plus it has many more LL sales in namebio thna .rs.. maybe its much older? I'd have to double check history. not sure.
could be I guess.

as for 10 years.. or 20. well.. that's the dilema of all domaining. when will my domain sell.. will it sell at all.. and for how much.

imo, all LL domains have by defiitoion greater potential to sell than longer ones... in about every extension.. its a rarity thing.. good for abbreviating etc..

but.. ti is not a given.. like I said.. "most extensions" ;)

tnx

I like my LL ccTLD domains more than most of my "brandable" .coms.

I like that you clearly defined your investment strategy. Seems well thought out. Its always about economics. Maybe shed other names but keep your LL.

The LL would get taken by someone for sure.

yes.. I mean.. whether it is .al or .rs all these LL or even NN domains go backorder.. as far as I know.

everyone knows how scarce LL are. that in turn makes then rare.. now the question remains.. does rare domain imply valuable domain.. well.. thats when extensions come into play etc..

I don't even know of the whole picture of cctlds.. how many are around.. which countries etc..
I'd need to look into it.. I am working under assumptions there are tons of them.. including some small unreliable african countries etc.. where registrars may go offline the day aftger you reg there... I thnk I saw it happen once before.. that being said, I think something like .rs is not the botom of the bottom... and probably neither top of top.

thanks. cheers.

Looking at reported sales, both .al and .rs seem to be used for hacks more than anything.

I personally just renewed all of my LL .al domains. I like them alot. I don't have any .rs though. I had a bunch of other NNN and LLL ccTLDs but I let many drop. Not the LL though.

ccTLDs rock and I have bunches

For RS I have 15ish LL RS, the January renews are seven - I am dropping four, keeping two and still on the fence on one. RS the owner change requirement/cost is annoying, the renew cost could be better, RS is not my favorite but not the worst either, I got them because they were available at reg fee

The January ones I kept are VC/rs and RZ/rs and I will keep my NN - https://www.google.com/search?q=the+answer+to+the+meaning+of+life

I let all mine go.

tnx for share
yeah.. 16$ is not cheap. 20 domains and its $300

the million dollar question no one knows answer to then is:
does abotu everyone of those LL have a XXX sale potential in the year to come :)

nice.
I checked with support
ownerchange not nedded. like ever.
u push your domains around forever with any name. so no need to pay fee. $7 I think.
I know I didn't bother and I bought a few off someone.

so I am pretty much removing that as negative aspect from my perspective.
so the only thing left is $16 renewal.

mind you (lol) $16 is the cheapest of all registrars for .rs
you go about everywhere else and you pay $50-100 lol

some admin on another reg when I asked them about a deal they can give on say 20... told me to jump on this $16 deal like no tomorrow cause best they can do is like $60

pathetic. $60 for cctld renewal. why bother. might as well close your shop and head home.

Well I had a look through reported .rs sales and there weren't really any. So it's either not a great market or sales aren't revealed/researched. I felt the percentage call was to drop them. Price was a factor and like you mention the roi isn't great for the few sales that have been reported.

yep.. I agree
.al looks much better in that regard.
.co obviously too.. but that's class a part. and the only one in it too.

I guess all .rs investors can hope for then is that there were more unreported sales than reported.. and or that .rs is just new kid to the block heheh

Besides having a lot of them through unfortunate auction tactics at sedo (read my 1. post at nP if you want to know)..

I learned to like my LL, NL, LN and NN .AT a lot!

-> Inexpensive renewal from ~ $ 8,6 to $ 11

-> No ownership restrictions. Citizen of "world" suffices

-> I'm from Austria, so have some edge in approaching end users (at least I think I have)

-> debatable radio test within English language, German language does fine

-> hackability with "at" or @

-> no transfer fees, no setup fees like eg .de

Plus I think that in future more will be aware of this ccTLD (not able to list for sale on Gdaddy ATM, etc...)

But if I would be a foreigner, I'd eventually also ditch them for now.

I'd be careful on real ccTLD s (= else than co, tv etc..)

Just like with local business in other markets as domaining

well put

there are some amazing hacks in all kinds of extensions.. but as said before the best ones are long gone and taken, and selling for tonsof money.. and those that sell cheap or are left to reg, are simply not worth owning. some people have the worng impresison that just because something makes a hack, it must be valuable. but eventually we all learn it is far from truth.

I assume when you talk aboout LL NN LN NL in .at... this isn't just stuff you can go and reg any day.. and hasn't been so for long time right? sounds like an older extension compared to say .rs.

cheers

no its great
thanks

what I meant by that line is if people wanna showcase their domains here they own.. cause the thread is not just to show what I own and ask if my stuff is worth keeping.. then that people stick to showcasing their LL.rs exclusively.

rest of topics can make some detour if helps arguments
all good
cheers

Using Google Chrome + Translate Page for non-English support registrars can work wonders...although tread carefully lol..

Serbia is a small market, so is Albania. Not to mention that both TLDs are still less mature than their other European counterparts.
I always buy LL with a view to selling them to local end users. So you have to consider the size of the market. Europe has strong extensions, but small countries, therefore small markets.
Of course you can always hope that a foreigner will want to use your names for domain hacks, but there isn't widespread demand for aftermarket domain hacks.

well.. my hope was more along the lines of foreigners wanting to simply use the LL domain for some purpose.. abbreviaton or other.. but the more I talk to you the more I begin to realize that that may be a very very long shot indeed.

I sold one LL.rs for mid XX in 2016. to foreigner. for some abbreviation url shortener site thing.
then had some low XXX offers for another LL.rs from a serbian guy who had same initials as domain

but i think you may be onto something when yuo say local endusers only... or great moajorrity.

makes one wonder if all those LL.al sales were for locals too.
