I was just wondering, do any of you think that parking a name but not stating it is for sale on the parking page offers any advantages ?

ie: Serious end users will look you up on the whois and contact you directly by email.

Any thoughts on this ?

Thanks

I think it may very well get you higher offers from serious endusers. To take Gene's TripleAdvantage.com sale as an example from awhile back.. I'd see big endusers like this more likely to lowball you if your domain name has a huge THIS DOMAIN IS FOR SALE plastered over the top of the page.

On the other hand, it may discourage domainers and other interested parties from offering if you don't make it aware that the name is for sale -- they may think that you aren't interested in selling it.

I either park mine at Sedo -- or elsewhere with a miniscule this domain may be for sale or I have my names blank. I don't make it obvious that any of my names are for sale, but at the same time, I'm more about quantity than quality. If I had loads of names worth XXXX, rather than XXXX names, that may be a different story.

Do you expect to sell your domain name sooner?

Stating "The domain might be for sale" on your parking page is not a serious defect. "The domain might be for sale" more often lets a visitor consider if buying the domain or not---the time he/she more often feel interested in your domain, not the domain's parking contents.

I monetize through Fabulous. I put some "for sale" signs on a few domains and the ppc conversions went way down. When people see a for sale sign, they seem to be less inclined to click on anything else on the page.

The one thing that did go up was the number of silly offers. I have a lot of one-word domains from 1996, and when the for sale signs went up I started getting lots of $10 offers... yeah right, $10 for a popular one-word .com. I wish Fabulous had a discreet for-sale sign.

I think it's more convenient for an end user to make an offer if there's a link directly on the web page rather than having to look up the whois and send an email. I like the way Bodis do it. I've had many offers via my parked Bodis pages. More than any other parking company, including my biggest ever sale.

I think it is better there is for sales sign, you don't have to accept any low ball offers. If the end user really wants it, it will pay.

I'm with NPComplete on this one. Have had similar results when I put up the "For Sale" signs up, CTR declined and received (annoying) lowball offers (Golly gee wow! You is really gonna offers me twenny-five whole dollars for my domain?!?! Yee-Haa, I is rich!!!).

As a result I no longer list my better names for sale and leave it up to those that are serious to find me via Whois.

the right buyer will not pay you more money becase you do not specify the domain for sale, nor paying you less
